and here's a nice rpely for the k40 quote:

For anyone who gets a laser ticket, we encourage you to fight it. That in itself isn't news, (we encourage everyone to fight all speeding tickets) but lasers are not on judicial notice in New Jersey. In fact, they're not on notice in 95% or more of the country's courts. The prosecution teams around the country are glad you don't know that.

kevin.
nice! that's is a very useful bit of info.

Back to the original question, how 'bout these jammers?

Black Widow, Illusion, Mirage 2001, Phantom, Phantom II, Phantom III, Phantom RCD, Phantom RCD XP, Phazer, Phazer II, Scrpion XP+, Viper, Blinder MT-10 (Laser), K-40 Diffuser Plus (Laser), Lidatek Laser Echo (Laser), Bel Laser Pro 904 (Laser), and the Escort ZR3 (Laser)

Saw 'em listed on a site that wanted $10 for their opinion on which was best. Then I saw these two:

Stealth 430, Phantom 4

for sale on www.museumservicesintl.org claiming to be the only units that would detect/jam the new POP radar. I don't know enough about it all to have a bullshitometer about this stuff, should I get a phantom 4?

actually the lidar guns are handheld and very common and fire 1000 samples per second at a speed of around 984,000,000 feet per second. yeah those nanoseconds give you a whole lot of time to react.
actually this hurts your argument more than it helps it (at least from my understanding)... a 2 foot wide beam fired at a rounded object 1000 times every second is going to bounce all the way around the world giving a detector a lot to detect down the road. remember the point of a radar detector is to detect the cop shooting other people, not shooting you. So if you are alone on a road you're going to get fucked. And you are also fucked if he decides to shoot only you. But if he shoots a lot of people you are going to know he's up around the corner doing it.

waaay to many variables to say that. now your starting to get into chaos theory mathmatics. "A detector will save you sometimes If they target a car ahead of you, and you are ideally situated to detect the lidar, your detector might go off. " this is another quote from teknics post. better to read that article than argue anymore it sums up everything.

Awesome link, Wraith, thanks! Looks like radar jamming is a figment of the imagination, laser jamming is difficult and expensive, and BEL makes the best products.

Local cops here use X band which is only detectable when your being shot or somethin like that.

Well, I think that actually pretty much covered everything out there, in the jammer realm. Of course, according to the tests done by that other site, they all pretty much suck. I think I'm just gonna get a BEL 880 and detect radar and laser, trust in my lack of a paintable target (headlights retracted, no front license plate), and maybe get the Uniden Bear Tracker C12 to keep track of police chatter and see if there are any patrol cars nearby.
