how do i change an image that is greyscale to maroonscale?

seriously, i tried "replace color" and it only replaces the one shade of gray, not what i want

okay, i read the help fies and tried different stuff with the color replacement, but it seems since the picture is black and white, it just replaces the grey stuff with teh greyscale version of the color i select

currently, the picture is grayscale, and i want it marroon-scale, meaning all black should be replaced by dark maroon.



i know how to replace RGB colors, but when you try to replace black with a color, it doesn't work.



just try to make it say the same thing, only in red instead of black and it doesn't work, it just turns to a lighter color of gray and scales from there.
