so i was wondering, why would you take advise form someone who's been shut in a room reading a book for years versus someone who has actually gone out and lived and done a bunch of stuff.

its basically, the difference between "dont do that, cause moses did it, and it didnt work for him" versus "dont do that cause you'll get the runs"

True, there would seem to be little of a practical nature that a monk could offer advise on. But he could be very well versed in history, religion, mathematics, etc.

In short, depends on the kind of advice you're looking for.

It's like politicians. All they've ever done is aspire to be a politician, took political science in university, kissed *** as a flunky for another politician, etc.

Why the **** would you put that guy in charge of your national budget, or national defence? But we do it anyway.

Anyone who practices religion...... who do you think wrote the bible.

I find the fact that you were wondering on this subject to be a somewhat peculiar happenstance. Does this have anything to do with you watching The Ten Commandments last night on TV?

There are many theory's behind how the roman catholic church include celebacy.
Actually celebacy dates way before Catholic Church.

There many religious sects that did and what is now known was of the break away sect of Zealots that hid in the Qumron area of northern Isreal. They practiced celebacy and men only where allowed in the sancutrary and on holy grounds. These were the men that wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Many passages written then are now in the New Testament in which Jesus or his disciples were given the credit for the parables...... but wait how can that be?

Christianity would fall flat if the truth be known!

So its a Jewish thing initially and then the monks are not always of Catholisism itself.

Hmmmmmmmm...
