Aight... I know I'm posting this in the wrong place, but theres not much activity elsewhere at the moment....
My friend has a TII. It has a straight-through exhaust, ported wastegate, AFC, manual boost controller, stock IC, and a hybrid turbo...The Turbo (from what has been described to me) Is stock on the exhaust side (to keep the stock manifold and wastegate) and upgraded significantly on the compressor side. No matter what he does, he cannot boost over 10 lbs. Even pinching the wastegate line.. What should he look for? Could the wastegate be ported too big? Ecu? I can't figure it out... Oh, on a side note... I DID tell him he's a moron for not doing proper fuel modifications... He has a AFC, but I don't thing that's gonna cut it. I think he want's to run like 18 psi... He ran that with the stock turbo, and somehow didn't pop.... |
Come on dammit.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

could it be he has a boost leak... sorry noobie talking here
|
how do you know it only goes to 10psi? its possible that the intake or exhaust is too restrictive to make more than 10psi. its theoretically possible to do about 13-14psi on the stock injectors but its not a great idea

mike But he said that no matter what he does to the boost controller, it wont go over 10psi. It has a full open 3" exhaust. I don't know what to tell him... I told him to check the wastegate for proper operation, and the BOV and MBC for leaks. He had none of the problems until the turbo upgrade... |
hmm thats really wierd, mine setup like that would do 11-13psi on the top end. i wonder if his intake is too small?

I think it has got to be a leak. Or either operator error with the boost controller installation/operation. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Bump. Still no fix... Anyone?

Tell him to look at the wastegate, and make sure that is is not overly ported, so that the opening goes past the closed door. Also have him hook a pressure/vac pump up to the actuator and check for movement. It could be a restrictive intake, but it sounds like a boost leak. Have him try this:
I've found that the easiest way to find boost leaks is to take some soda cans or tennis balls or anything of the like, and put them in the intake hoses(from the airbox to the turbos). Clamp the hoses tightly around the cans. Next, get a blower nozzle for an air compressor that can have a vacuum hose slip on. Put the vacuum hose on the blower nozzle at one end and an intake nipple at the other end. Tighten the vacuum hose down with hose clamps at both ends. Turn the car on(not the engine though). Now lightly blow air into the intake with the blower. The air will have no where to go except where the leak is If he finds a boost leak, make sure he doesn't go out and hammer the piss out of the car as soon as it's fixed, because the motor probably won't like all that boost. |
Thanks... I'll forward that to him. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Did he somehow fit some huge compressor on it? I can see the stock hot side not wanting to spool a large compressor up very high.
That doesnt seem very likely though. I'd check out what everyone mentioned above. |
i believe viagra could be used to help get it up.

OK he upgraded the turbo and ported the wastegate. . . what about the spring rate in the gate? If it hasn't been increased it's not going to hold more boost.
Which wastegate is it? I've had some trouble with some of them not having stiff enough springs to hold much over 10psi, just for a heads up. |
