I'm having trouble deciding what to go with...I'm leaning towards the SmartChip though.

Anyone have experience with these?

SilverTurbo 01-04-2004 10:13 PM

Got a mod chip for my Xbox, send if off to have it chipped. You'll thank me later.

Dysfnctnl85 01-04-2004 10:22 PM

It seems like too much to pay though...

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 10:36 PM

I'm a newb to the PS2. Any words of advice you guys?

Srce 01-04-2004 10:41 PM

I have no idea what these things do and why people want them? Are they for cheats or something?

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 10:43 PM

Plug in power

Hook-up to TV

Plug in controller

put in game

On a serious note, I heard going online is the sheezzzz, I havent got my adapter yet. Socom or Socom II are good buys.

ColinRX7 01-04-2004 10:45 PM

PS2 Chips like let you play burned games don't they? LOL

Or does it do something else I'm not aware of. I'm still living in the original PSX days.

I have SOCOM and it rocks. I'm killing like a true pro now. Hit my highest game total last night, I had 17 kills in the first 3 games of 11 to be played. There after I had to go take a huge **** so I just left the controler and went. When I came back, I was MVP with those 17 kills and m team won LOL.

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 10:46 PM

I thought the chip was to play games from around the world and or make games run and load quicker?

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 10:48 PM

Note to self. Go online with SOCOM and find SRCE with grenade or claymore.

Srce 01-04-2004 10:49 PM

I'm in a clan, I was invited after I killed all the people who participated in a training session they held. So, I started out as srce, and now I'm, ready for it?

<OG> srce

LOL, I'm in the Frostfire map mostly, see if you can get me sucka.

BTW, by the time you set up that Claymore, or throw that Granade, I'll come around, put a 226 to your ear and blast your brains all over a wall. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 11:03 PM

JT-Imports 01-05-2004 12:58 AM

I have 2 Playstation 2s right now, I want to have one. If it plays burn games should play from around the world too, minus PAL right?

Eric Happy Meal 01-05-2004 02:56 AM

man i gotta get my socom back and get a damn adapter for the ps2... i have a lynksys 2.4GHZ wireless router deal. and i dont think theres a plug for USB to the back of the ps2, so what do i need to get for it to work? cant find a reciever that has usb on it too. THEN ill show him whats up.. ill bring back the O clan...we were the ****.

phinsup 01-05-2004 02:57 AM

You need the network adapter for the PS2, then you need to either connect from the network adapter to either to the switch or to a wireless bridge.

To go wireless you'll need the bridge.

Eric Happy Meal 01-05-2004 03:02 AM

yeah i have the network adapter. what im saying is that theres no connector deal from the back of the router so i can plug it into the network adapter. (no usb plugh wasnt thinking right)

phinsup 01-05-2004 03:10 AM

So you have a one port router?

Eric Happy Meal 01-05-2004 03:26 AM

qdoesnt have any. just the little antenna to be picked up by the other wireless ones.

turbovr6 01-05-2004 06:05 AM

Correct, except I'm pretty sure the mod chips allow PAL playback as well.

Leetheslacker 01-05-2004 02:30 PM

You can buy "plug in" Modchips, that plug into the usb port or somewhere else.

Safes the hassel fo sending it out or butchering it trying to solder it yourself.

The only non-solder ones I've seen require "swap disks." In essence it means you have to put a special disk in first before you can play your back-up copy, etc.

A PITA!

phinsup 01-05-2004 03:28 PM

I used Linksys for a very long time, but hae had nothing but issues with their latest products. I had two routers go TU and a wireless router was **** right out of the box.

I have been using the D-Link products ever since and been much happier.

JT-Imports 01-05-2004 04:59 PM

hummm yeah.... No CD for me that sound like it too...

D-link_? Got your DEFI gauges hooked up to it....hehe

Anyway, hummm D-link, got a link?

I need to get that socom 2 and get on the net...

ColinRX7 01-05-2004 07:26 PM

OMG you guys. I hooked up my PS2 today finally. Yeah tell me I'm stuck in 2002 or whatever, but I finally started playing Final Fantasy X, and I can already tell it's going to eat up alot of my time.

Just like Fre and FFXI. Bastid.

phinsup 01-05-2004 07:38 PM

not into the Final Fantasy games, I guess the next version is going to come with the new hard drive for the PS2.

It will be interesting to see if Sony comes out with PS3 soon or if they redesign the PS2 to include the network interface and the hard drive and new case and re-introduce it.
