i drove around a while today to see what i could find for a beater. i saw this yellow jeep. my dad came by and looked at it. the guy wants $3,500 obo. its an 89 jeep wrangler carbed v6.(don't know if they were efi) it has 160,000 miles. the guy has the bikini top, the hard top, and the convertible top for it. now, in order to get this my dad says i must part out the 7 and get all the money i can. so if i get this jeep the 7 is being parted out which is better than letting it sit i think.... and worrying about repainting etc. the guy says that there is a problem with the idle in the jeep. it got a new carb about a year ago. and it has been sitting for a while. so now it idles rough. the guy thinks that it just needs a good tune-up, could this be the carb needing an adjustment??? anyone farmiliar with these jeeps please help. also....does anyone know a good jeep forum as good as NP is with rx7's??? thanx

why would you sell the 7 to buy something slower? A jeep isnt any more practical than the 7...

Just like them better?

Four words. JEEPS ARE BAD AS ****. Ooops, five words.

I like the Jeep wranglers, I have always wanted one. I would consider getting one for a daily driver, means of transportation, to and from work. But I would never sell my RX-7 for one.

My first car: 1984 Jeep Cherokee Chief. Carbeurated I-4 piece of horse ****!! Needed a tune up constantly, and then one day going down Route 230 at about 55 mph, the bitch stalls! Power steering locked up, all accessories died, I thought I was screwed. Slammed on the brakes and limped off to the side of the road, and sat there for 30 minutes trying to turn her over.... Then the carbed shitbox fired over and I was out of there. I needed a new carb, and it wasn't worth it. It was slow, it had cancer spots all over it, and it was begging for death... What a waste of money that thing was......

My dad used to have an old cj7 it was an older one. From what i remember of it it was a pretty good vehicle. We were going to restore it but it was left in kentucky for a while and then stolen.

A friend of mine had an older Wrangler, and I guess he had pretty good luck with it, but they are no more practical than the 7. And unless you really like to drive offroad, I can't imagine why anyone would want one. They will positively beat you to death on a long highway trip. Uncomfortable as hell and noisy.

One more thing: I would not assume that a used vehicle for sale with 160k miles that didn't run real well "just needs a good tune up." Those words are a lot like "I have a nice bridge I'd like to sell you." The carb is probably the least of your worries. I would figure the engine has low compression on a couple cylinders and probably needs a complete rebuild. Sitting for a while??? $3500.???? I'd stay away.

yeah i wouldnt buy a jeep with over 100k i dont think.

my friend has had about 5 cherokees, and 3 wranglers.

his 91 2.5 wrangler was a dog. couldnt make it up hills on the interstate without downshifting.

he had an 89 with the carbed 6, and it also really sucked.

his had 130k i think, it ran like **** all the time and had no power.

however his 92 renegade with the injected 6 was awesome.

i would love one of those.
