Look if I wanted to read this ****** book i'd save my money and just buy the book and read it on my own damn time! so how about you teach me something!!!! college is stupid

Well, to get somewhere you need to be able to learn on your own...eventually. Having a person show you something can only go so far. You actually have to do it to LEARN it.

Today a student in one of the classes I teach at a college here said that he complained about our textbook to both the dean and the publisher. He did this because of a problem that used an equation for determining the life expectancy of white males and females. They actually took it seriously too!

GD! How fucked up is that? Learning something on your own?!!

Where can I get in on this profound new approach to education????

I just paid $900 for a month long class that didn't teach me ****!! except patience.

But it was the only way to get the $@#%&!!! certificate that says I know what I'm doing.

I love our national education policy, "If you're stupid, don't worry we'll make the smart kids go through all the same BS as you as many times as it takes!"

I have applied for SO many jobs that would've been a cakewalk, but because there are so many morons in the world, I have to take a $900 class to certify that I know how to use a @$&#% computer and 10-key.

Sorry just venting, its frustrating paying umpteen million $$$$ a year for college and getting a third-rate education!!!

GOD I HATE THIS GD STATE!!

Damn right I'm ******* bitter. There is no way I should have to pay 15k a year so that some assholes can tell me to go read a book. They are not educating me at all. Basically at the end of my 4 years I'll have a little piece of paper that says I know a whole bunch of crap that I easily could have taught myself and without going to college. But instead of learning it on my own I payed 60k to be told to sit down and teach myself. I think I have every right to be bitter. That 60 thousand could have been spent in a much better way. Higher education is a ******* scam. This would be very easy to correct. All you do is have national tests that see if you know what you're doing. So what you do is study for this test. Pass it. And there you go! You didn't have to pay lots and lots of money to be told to go read a book! Pretty amazing concept. Don't even get me started on how little the schools really care about the students...

phinsup 10-03-2002 11:38 AM

SpecialT 10-03-2002 12:41 PM

I'm with ThirdGen on this one!

I couldn't agree more! But I don't think you need a test to see if you know what your doing. I just think you need an "Anti Stupid" test!

Because even if you don't know what your doing Right Now. If your not an Idiot you have the ability to learn!

I think alot of post secondary diplomas are for monkeys who otherwise wouldn't have the slightest clue how to do/get a job in the real world!

I'm not mad! It's just my opnion! If I was an Idiot, I wouldn't have one!

That would be true for some prefessions, but some really do require the extra schooling and practice. I don't know about you, but I feel better knowing that the engineers who designed the plane I'm flying in had to go through alot of school to prove what they know. Most high-level jobs don't even want to bother with people without a certain levgel of education. I know somebody who actually had to go through a 5 day 20+ hour interview in which they tried to be sure he knew everything he said he did. Studying for a test is different from actually "knowing" the subject. Look at the SAT's. If one person used "tricks" to get a 1500 and the other got a 1500 without them. Who do you think knows the material better?

How do you feel knowing the A&P Mechanics making flight critical repairs only make $15.00 per hour?

Why do you think I have A&P and haven't touched a plane since I got it LOL

isamu 10-03-2002 01:01 PM

I pretty much kept all my books that I bought in college for future reference. Since most were related I could use them as references and examples.

phinsup 10-03-2002 01:07 PM

Was 2 years of training or 3 ojt. The school is a fuggin joke, just basically trains you to take the test and gets your hours in.

The class that I graduated from about 50% of them became auto mechanics. I had worked in on heavy A/C for about 2.5 years full time job full time school, they would have given me $1.00 more for my licenses LOL so I said **** it, did auto mechanic for a year and said **** that time to go back to tech job.

Well then you simply remake the test every year so that no "tricks" can be used. Let's say you pay 5-10 engineers to design an exam that will make sure that the students won't be able to bluff their way through it. Pay these guys $500,000 a year to do this job, look at the pass fail rates and have people evaluate the exams that they are giving. You could even turn the exam making into a fairly prestigious job. All without the necessity of a university. But, you can still have one if people feel they need to be taught a subject. My issue is that in order for me to get a job I HAVE to have a degree. What I want is to be able to get some sort of ceritification without having to waste 4 years of my life and sixty thousand dollars.
