So what's everyone getting?

PS3 comes out right around my 30th b-day, so i was thinking of snaggin one.

rowtareh 10-02-2006 08:24 PM

I think I am gonna pick up the W...errrr Revolution!!! Nintendo has never done me wrong in a game system. ****, I still play my original NES from 1987. Yeah, had it since 1987, still works!!!

I would love to get a PS3, but I just cant see myself spending upwards of 1k on a gaming system.

Well 599 with blue ray, 60 gig hard drive, wifi, bluetooth remote pretty much everything u need unless you want two controllers. The xbox and ps3 are pretty much on par, by the time you throw in hd-dvd drive and the xbox still doesnt have a hard drive.

Like I say Nintendo seems to go for a different market and definetely doesnt have the games i like, although that may change with wii i dunno, but still no hd-dvd/blue-ray and no hard drive option.

vosko 10-02-2006 08:31 PM

i just got a 360......i like it

phinsup 10-02-2006 08:35 PM

it is getting a little rediculous that game consoles are not more expensive then pc's

Il RX8 lI 10-02-2006 09:37 PM

I've got a 360, I'll get a Wii, then a PS3 once prices drop a bit or a killer app happens. Wii's launching with Twilight Princess, that's good enough for me.

well the 360 and ps3 are on par with each other for graphics, but for just about everything else the ps3 far exceeds the 360.

rotaryturtle 10-02-2006 10:22 PM

ill keep my ps2 until ps3 prices drop enough, then ill probably get one, but my favorite systems are my original nes, and my super nintendo.

vosko 10-02-2006 10:27 PM

i got $150 off on my 360.......so that made me buy it....

rowtareh 10-02-2006 10:27 PM

I could not agree more with you phins, but I don't have anything in my home, or care to get anything in the future in my home, that will support the 360 or the PS3. HD-DVD I could care less about, I have seen blu-ray technology.

Nintendo does go to a different market yes, but they are always daring and have had success with everything they have put out(sans virtual boy, OH GOD what a disgrace!). They OWN the handheld market by far, Sony will never catch up to them at all. They have also released the best periphreals for their systems also. The wavebird is the best and most comfortable controller I have ever used. I played on it for ten hours straight, and did not get any cramps in my hands. I think Nintendo will do very well this time around, but the market will always change to cater whatever is hot at the time. Right now it is Sports titles and violent games such as GTA-style.

I have friends with 360's and it's a good systems. But there are only about 3-4 games I want to play for it. Does not seem like a smart buy.

With the Wii, I want to play Twilight Princess, the new Super Smash Brothers.

banzaitoyota 10-03-2006 10:04 AM

ill be getting wii so i can play super mario RPG. and thats about it so far.

sidewinderx7 10-03-2006 02:09 PM

I bought a 360 the day they came out. I bought the original xbox the first day. I bought the n64 the first day. And if I wasnt so poor as a child, I would have had the snes and nes they day they came out.

I also test games for microsoft. I can say, the 360 was probably a waste of money. I have played like maybe a combined 20 hours since day 1. Out of all the game titles, only about 3 or 4 have any replay value.

However, nintendo... man. Old super mario 64. Who cant say they didnt spend hours upon hours playing that game? How about zelda 64? How about golden eye? How about something newer? Super smash brothers anyone?

Basically nintendo goes more for gameplay. Which is much more important to me than some "pretty" console polygons. (which dont even come close to a good gaming pc).

Nintendo for the win!

Baldy 10-03-2006 02:27 PM

I like my xbox 360, the big time games for this system are what I want out of gaming (shooting, racing). Nintendo appears to offer more of the family-friendly games and sport games than anything else, and I'm afraid 3rd party game creators won't fully utilize the new controlling ("wiimote"?) method to its potential, it'll become gimicky.

I've previously been a huge nintendo fan, still have our N64 and still use the Gamecube quite frequently (can't give up mariokart). But I agree with this guy (good article).

phinsup 10-03-2006 02:31 PM

yea "nunchuch" remote, although the ps3 remote will look and feel the same as the old it will also be motion sensitive. Like you said and I agree nintendo is definetely more family oriented and I hate most sports games so there ya go.

Xbox still has no replacement for socom or gran turismo IMHO

What?! Shell out bucks for a doodad that plugs into your TV so you can sit on your ass and play video games til the sun comes up? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

You of all people should, you sarcastic guy, you. The difference is that a PC is capable of running other apps, whereas the Playstation is either playing, or collecting dust. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

mmm, appetizers.

PercentSevenC 10-05-2006 11:11 AM

Wii for me!

Probably a 360, too after the price drops a bit.

I'll buy a PS3 after this generation is over and I can get one for $50 used.

Il RX8 lI 10-05-2006 12:32 PM

A lot of people said the DS's touch screen would be gimmicky from 3rd party developers too, then Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow came out.

rumors != truth

drftk1d 10-05-2006 07:47 PM

I'd wait on the PS3 for the time being. Wait for all the kinks to be worked out and for more solid titles to be released.

Truthfully, the PS3's best competitor this holiday season is the PS2, it's 1/4 of the price of the PS3 and has a rock solid library. If you don't have one already get one.

I want the 360 too, but it needs a price drop.

Personally, I'll be happy this holiday season with Wii and PS2.

phinsup 10-05-2006 07:49 PM

Dude if you aint got a ps2 you prolly have a black and white tv

drftk1d 10-05-2006 07:53 PM

you never know, there are people that I've talked to who only had nintendo systems for whatever reason and are just now getting PS2's (after seeing Okami).

Seppuku 10-05-2006 08:42 PM

I dont have a ps2.. But thats because i gave up when the 2nd one broke. To be on topic though, I cant really decide which is best to get. I think ill wait til after theyve all come out and see how well everything goes. I got one of the 1st ps2s(in line the night before they released) and that turned out to be a mistake. Also thinking by waiting there will be more games available to give a better idea on what has best playability.

the new hi-def cables work great!

Il RX8 lI 10-05-2006 11:22 PM

I play the old SNES and NES all the time. Mostly I run games through the emulators though since it's kind of a bother to bring out all of the equipment for both. BTW:

I was into the N64 big, but didn't get into the Cube. Bought 2 PS2s at different times that I sold cause I never played them. Really got into the Xbox, and bought a 360 on release which I love. Will probably pick up a Wii as well. I'll get a PS3 but not straight away.

New gaming consoles are actually the exact same thing we are using right now, Hard drives graphic systems and all that and the 360 is pretty unique you can personalize all the menu pages and **** its getting a bit out of control as are the prices, all in all i still think id rather blow all my money on my 7

phinsup 10-17-2006 01:13 PM

In general americans spend A LOT of money on entertainment. Movies, Sports, Video Games, TV, Porn. At least with a game console you still have something to show for it. Go to a football game and all you can say is helped some over paid fuckhead maintain a drug habit.... same goes for movies for that matter.

Baldy 10-17-2006 01:50 PM

I like to think that the consoles are getting nice enough to where I don't feel like I'll ever have to upgrade, unless it breaks. Previously, it was "radical, look at those grafixxx!!" every year. Now the graphics are to the point where if it were any better, it wouldn't mean much, entertainment level matters more.

I could see consoles moving closer and closer to PCs, in this way: Imagine I keep my 360 for years, customizing it to my liking, and even possibly upgrading the processor to account for newer, more advanced games. It becomes a permanent part of my entertainment center, not a Christmas gift that gets replaced after 2 years. Of course, this will never be encouraged, because the big 3 companies need a way to make us empty our wallets for the newest jazz.

I think I'm plateaued, I can't see myself wanting any more than the 360 has to offer, unless that newfangle Wii remote just absolutely blows my mind away, which I can't see happening.

rootbeerdragon 10-17-2006 03:09 PM

plus on another note.. once you put a game in the ps3, its registered on the system and cant be played on other consoles
