ito told me that i think this way because i'm not a REAL car enthusiast.

i'm beginning to think he's right. lately i've had the urge to put my car in a trash compactor...

 

Every time RX-7 owners see an engine swap like that, it's a stab to their (our?) fragile little egos, and denial, our favorite defense mechanism, kicks in. Our engines are perfect, and nobody should ever want to take one out of an RX-7. I bet the 13b-rew wasn't running when they took it out, and if it was, I bet somebody else needed it to replace their blown engine.

 

 

People contest that its the same thing when someone puts a rotary in a Datsun or a Starlet

or something like that. But I don't think its the same thing cause replacing a rotary with

oh i don't know ...... a V8 or a Supera engine kinda defeats the whole purpose

of the R in RX-7. And if a rx-7 doesn't have a rotary it defeats the purpose

of the whole car.

 

Supra engine isnt that bad () but sr20 come on now its getting rediculous that poor 7 another one bites the dust

 

Unique is right. Not everyone is going to be outspoken fans of the rotary, given its various peculiarities. That is a job for us rotary freaks. Fact is, if you have a nice 7 and the motor blows, some people would prefer to run back to the security of a "good, old, tried-and-true piston engine." Piston mechanics are everywhere. Good rotary mechanics are rare. If you talk to some of these people with transplanted piston engines in 7's, you'll probably find that they've been through hell trying to keep the rotary running, and probably been screwed a time or two as well by shops that have no business under the hood of a 7.



Having said that, let me say it'll be a cold day in hell when there's anything other than a rotary under the hood of my car!

 

I am in no way defending him putting an SR20 in an RX-7... I personally care less. But I will defend an SR20.. They are very good engines.. I've seen several get over 500HP.. and I personally would rather see another Japanese engine in an RX-7.

 

I wasnt knocking the sr20 its just the 180sx, silvia, and so on aren't classified with the RX-7. Yes I agree with you there are some bad *** sr20s out there. Some of them belong Vanquish members. So dont take that comment the wrong way. So hows your new 7 have you got it painted or are you still in IRAQ

till they put an engine can can produce more power than a rotary its ok (e.g. supra engine can get up to 1000hp)....not a sr20dt....
