Hitler and Gates with the same methodology? Not even close. Gates is a softspoken, ill dressing nerd that is a genius at business. Not many will agree that he is a good person for what he has done, but it's impossible to argue that what he does, doesn't work well. Of course there's no pleasing people. No matter how many billions of dollars he donates.

Hitler? He was a cult of personality that could motivate a mob to do whatever he wanted them to. And he did, and unfortunately they did too. Ever watch his speeches? He was masterful at captivating crowds. Gates is not.

I don't hold either of them in any high regard. But you have to call a spade a spade. Both of them are the best at what they do. How many else can say that? But that's not always a good thing obviously.

Oh yeah, BTW, if anybody here is badmouthing Gates and Microsoft - take a look at your computer. If it's a Microsoft product (even if you didnt pay for it) you are a hypocrite. Quit your bitchin' and pay for a non-Microsoft OS and browser. That's the only way that they can survive is if you support them financially.

I can't really say anything bad about Microsoft. It's not like I really like their stuff, it's that everyplace within a couple of miles of the Microsoft HQ here in Redmond is bugged. A buddy of mine made a crack about Internet Exploder and the next day he was missing. It's the MS Republican Army that comes in the middle of the night and takes people away. Uh oh!?! I think they're coming for me now................HELP!!!!!!!!!!

watch out for the ms ninjas... they throw ninja stars shaped like the windows symbol and climb out of your computer in the middle of the night to search through your stuff to see if u have anti-microsoft paraphanelia (sp), if u wake up they kill you ... they are the real spyware ms puts in all their stuff

I would have done the same thing if I had the brains he does. Tell me you guys wouldn't be happy being worth HALF what he is.
Happy if I was worth half????

**** that , 1/20th would do just fine for me.

Maybe even 1/100!

Bascically it boils down to that deep down inside people are jealous when someone is overly successfull.

As a consumer you can buy and use what you want, and Microsoft brought a computer into almost everyone's home and small business and made it easy for them to use.

You are quite wrong. Both were bent on world domination, and both killed their adversaries with a cruel efficiency. So Gates ate his grapefruit with a fork, and Hitler used a spoon. Big ******' deal.

sigh

MS didnt help bring PC's into homes.

DOS did not put PC's in homes, MS doesnt develop even half the things they sell.

gates is not a genius

it's not if you do it well, it's if you do it first.

PC's were getting into everyones home regardless, it was just a right place right time type of thing, now the MS junk is so entrenched in the world it's going to just take alot of time to go away.

It's taken the general public a very long time to get 32bit multi-user, preemptive multi-tasking operating systems preinstalled on their PC's, when such operating systems have existed since the 80's... they just werent generally available for the POS budding PC architecture. The consumer public controls what becomes popular, the majority of the consumer consists of 'sheep'. Generally what becomes popular & common is just a function of the advertising for that product, not the quality. If the product isnt made common by university or government, it's usually crap that has been pushed by $$ spent on MTV advertisements.

If you want to get a taste of what could have been, check out some old books (mid-late 80's) on NeXT Computers, the hardware and the operating system were both way ahead of their time. I picked one up the other day just to flip through a few pages and I already wanted to buy one, the book was printed in like 1987.

I'm sure most people on this forum have an understanding of this type of situation, i mean, the rotary engine hasnt had the greatest of success either...

one more thing

realise that MacOS X is considered 'advanced technology' or 'current', note that it's essentially technology that was developed in the mid-late 80's and early 90's mixed with what MacOS has been in the past, and a bunch of glue just making things messy.

Mach

Objective-C

The 'Dock' and other NeXT-ish GUI characteristics

Display PostScript (now known as Quartz in MacOSX and now PDF based)

all existed in NeXT STEP, and are the major technologies 'borrowed' that created MacOS X.

MS products still don't compete with the technology NeXT developed, personally, I'm sticking with GNU/Linux, and hoping GNUStep moves along (http://www.gnustep.org/). I don't think MS is incapable of developing good products, I just don't think it's their goal or at least not a high priority. Releasing more versions, promoting more hardware upgrades, and making things more complicated in general are all great ways to increase profits. None of these are done in the best interest of the consumer.

Very well stated, Pengaru! I wholeheartedly agree!

Bill Gates has done nothing good for computers in at least the last 20 years. He's been busy empire-building.

Competition and fresh ideas is what makes a better product. Microsoft has no competition. If a fresh idea comes out, MS kills the innovator and locks up the idea.

Gates has you Windoze lovers smelling his **** and thinking it smells like roses. Windoze is a bloated piece of stinky poo, and it's time the 'sheep' woke up.

Alright, I'm getting off my soapbox now. Carry on.
