Congrats! The most important thing to remember is that, yes, old people really ARE trying to kill you. The second most important thing to remember is that, yes, insurance companies are trying to rape you.
More seriously, though, there is one thing new drivers should really be aware of. Just because a car shouldn't be somewhere, it doesn't mean that a car won't be somewhere. Always check before moving just after a red light turns green. Trucks and buses around where I live are really terrible about running red lights, and if something like that hits you, you're in real trouble. I've seen a lot of accidents, and most of them could have been avoided if the people had just looked in those unlikely spots.
