it depends. pay's a little worse, depending.

what you do kinda depends on the size of the place.

in a big "normal" dealership, theres the

driver; doi

shipping recieving guy; opens and closes boxes

a big dealership will have a guy to put stuff away,

a really big dealership will have a guy that just pulls orders and brings em to the tech.

theres a counterperson (backcounter) for the mechanics, sometimes two

theres sometimes a guy just for wholesale (other shops)

and then retail.

then the mgr

our dealership parts dept is 3 people...

in our dealership there is a backpartscounterperson (for techs)

2 front counterpeople (for retail and wholesale)

2 stock people (pull parts and stock and other ****)

2 delivery guys

1 assistant manager (i have no idea what this guy does, i think he makes some deliveries, some shop sales, some bullshit and some couter sales)

1 manager-works harder than anyone else in the dept.

(the counter people in the front make about as much or more than most techs)

the back counter man makes more than the techs (good chunk more)

*im not in parts*

thats true.

one of the frustrating things is having to explain the same thing over and over to people, when you can change it yourself faster than they can

when i was working at the dealerships, all the parts people made the big bucks and drove the nice cars.

The techs usually had the beat up pos.

Thats because they care about how they look, mechanics for the most part, or have a sweet project cars that eats all the money.

my parts dept has:

3 full time front counter sales, and 2 that do it part time

total of 6 back counter guys

2 wholesale guys

1 wholesale parts puller

1 parts warranty/recieving guy

1 assisstant manager

1 manager

1 super hot secretary

2 people on the night crew to put away all the new stock.

and 3 drivers that go out 3 times each day.

i think most dealers are purely commission based, which is split up at the managers discression. paying backcounter guys more than frontcounter guys IMO is bullshit. we have one counter guy who started off as a mechanic, but couldnt really take it anymore. (too much of a physical toll) and from what the two highest paid guys in the dept. have said to me is that its not a bad job to have if you can live with 70K a year.

respsonsibilties arent that bad, the only thing that can get annoying is when the manager gives you a certain bin location and you have to make sure all the parts are in numerical order as well as verifying that the counts are all right. other than that, it can be kind of fun.
