i got a buffalo. i wished i had better reception downstairs or the backyard, now that summers here.

 

Where did you find that? I want a firmware hack for my SMC router, one that includes instructions to ping on a schedule.

I purchased a 'high gain' antenna, but it still sucks. My method for keeping unwanted users off my network was to use static IP's and WEP keys.

Do a google search for the word "Sveasoft", as far as I know they only do firmware upgrades to the WRT54G but search the forums Im not too sure. I flashed the router that I "borrow" from the Bellsouth building across the street from my apt. Apparently they know how to offer DSL but not how to change the default password on a Linksys router I bumped the antenna output up from 28mw to 200mw so I didnt completely wreck the router and my reception bumped up from "Very Low 2mbps" up to "Low 5.5mbps" and at nite when it cools down to "Medium 11mbps". Very good hack for a shitty router!
