We should consider selling old weapons to our enemies, then blow them up with our new weapons and go get the old ones back.. repeat.

It used to be that we could only print as much money up equal to the value of gold stored in our nation's vault(s). When they threw that system out it was the beginning of the end imo, that allows the government to finance this country right into the toilet.

Why did we abandon the gold standard?

I believe it had something to do with the Federal Reserve...the gold standard did not support having a Federal Reserve.

We needed something more prevalent than gold that could be monitored wrt supplies.

Im leaving this ******* country and moving to spain for awhile. The euro is the new dollar. Not to mention I think its going to be pretty hard for our country not to go bankrupt, in the next 20 or 30 years. Hell.. even japan has shown interest in calling in our debts to them. In which case, would would be fucked. Either way, the US is gonna need a LOT of help to stay above water in the coming years.
