Don't go to sites that have popups, that's my philosophy.

go to the start menu and click on "RUN" then type "net stop messenger" and all those radom popups will be gone! the problem i think is using broadband connection that broadcasts your isp number!

Use "Proxomitron". It's a web filter proxy server that sits between your browser and the Internet, and will filter out all javascript commands that pop up new windows. It can do all kinds of other stuff too, although it appears their website is down or hacked. Proxomitron

for a while, I got popups without internet explorer open. I'm at work, working on a spreadsheet or something, and I'd get popups. Turns out that I had some parasites. You might want to look into that. I only know of one parasite detector thingy, which is here. This helped me lose the popups, but I later found some files left behind, which spybot got rid of.

download opera.com - you have the option to use pop ups, or make them stop Plus, it's better than IE.
