I'm looking at getting a laptop, and have heard good things about Dell laptops (atleast compared to others) and my Dad was telling me that I should just spend a little more and get a Apple Powerbook. He said that they are every bit as fast as any of the Pentium 4's and super reliable (they like never crash). He said that the Windows emulation software is pretty good as well.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with the Apple notebooks and what you thought. I'm skeptical of the fact that a 1GHz Apple processor can keep up with a 3 GHz Pentum 4 but he (meh Dad) says they are every bit as fast.

who is paying? if he is paying i'd get apple... super bling.

if i was paying i'd get a toshiba notebook. Dell is blah... the keyboards on them suck... i've used two of them from my company and the keyboards never work right and the screens aren't that great either.

Ok, I'll add Toshiba to the list of laptops to look at.

I'll be paying, but I may get a little (like a couple hundred bucks) from the rents.

Apple's are just as fast?

I saw a guy with one of those titanium G4 Powerbooks at the airport the other day...::drools::

It all comes down to what you're going to use it for, IMO.

ask vosko... he is the computer genius here...

but haltech software Halwin and the dos version is PC based. ANd in order to use that u have to use an emulator. And i don' think it will work right... I Could be wrong... ask vosko.

Mac's have always been weird to me... it is a bitch when everyone else (work, school) uses PC and u use Mac. Stupid files are not compatible...atleast they weren't several years back... i'm not sure now.

if you want to do haltech or PFC go with a PC!!! preferably something with a serial port but if not you can buy a port replicator or stand alone USB to serial adapter. honestly old POS notebooks work great for haltech dos software. i am using an pentium 100 with 24mb of ram. i just leave it in my car. i am getting another old vaio to use in the car though
