Yeah, Phinsup is right. I can't think of any other reason why something like that would happen. Call them and get some free service.

the problem with calling is they won't help me cuz have a router. under the TOS you cant share your connection, unless you pay an additional $25/mo. it's so lame, I think they did it just so they won't have to deal with problems like mine.

turbovr6: if it's optimum online they don't let you share without buying a modem AND paying extra connection fees. An extra modem alone is a nice kick in the wallet nevermind the extra $25 a month.

Have you talked to Netgear about it? Does anyone else with that ISP have the same problem?

if you have a firewire port, disable it. XP sometimes thinks its a network port and tries to pass packets through it.

yeah I had that problem when I first installed XP. It's disabled. I think I'm going to disconnect everything except the 1 cable from modem to NIC card in my main computer, leave it like that for a week and see what happens. This way I'll know 100% if it's the ISP or something on my end

Not trying to start crap but my Cisco (as in the networking company) teacher says NIC card and RAM memory constantly and it drives me insane. Utilize the acronym.
