We're sick of trying to fix this piece-of-**** vaio. If I get a Dell, I can get a discount through our employee purchase program, but I'm probably going to have to have try to expand my credit limit and put it on the card. If I get the Gateway we were checking out at Best Buy (link), we can use our Best Buy credit card.

Then there's all the damn features, none of which I understand ("Intel® 915GV Chipset 256MB PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM 2-128MB module 40GB Serial ATA100 7200rpm hard drive w/ 8MB cache"...WTF?).

I want to be able to look at pics, play games (like WoW), write papers, burn CDs, maybe burn DVDs, and maybe edit some home movies and such.

Oh, and keep the price around $750 or less. We already have a nice monitor, keyboard, color printer, etc.

Dell. really solid and the warranty rocks. Back when i was doing IT, deployed 300 dell precisions. I only had 1 or 2 that had minor problems. And one was a hard drive related issue (maxtor's fault, not Dell's.) I loved the Dell desktops because it was less work for me.

In my family we own over ten dells now... their support is top notch.. if you get the warranty sure you have to csall and have em trouble shoot it.. but they do the at home service if you pay for it,.. and its usually next day service.. we had few problems on all our dells.. the most problematic ones to this day have been my laptop and my bros laptop.. both motherboards went poop.. on the desktops nuthing has really gone wrong.., my brothers graphics card went out on his after having it for 4.5 years, but due to the fact that he never opened the box to blow off the lint, so the cooling fan got clogged.. (not dells fault) and my sisters hard drive on her 8 year old dell went out this year.. (not dells fault)

their customer service is now in India.. haha.. so its funny when you call..

I dont like gateway.. a cow?

**** that, last time I had some in-the-garage guy (a guy who works in an IT department) try to fix it, well, it broke a couple more times after that. Plus any "neighborhood geek" that I ask always suggests this top-of-the-line crap that I don't need.

I do all the IT related purchasing for my company...In the last 2 years I have bought approximately 40 computers from dell not including about 8 or 10 laptops...

The 4 years before that I bought and built all the PCs we needed...It got to a point where I couldn't build them for a cheap as dell sold them....That was after factoring in the time it took me to actually put it together, load the OS, and configure all the software we run.

Since we have been running all DELL systems their warranty freakin rocks....We really havent had any problems with the desktops but the laptops need to have a few parts swapped out here and there...Battery, HD, Keyboard...And man, those ******* are fast....I had to have the powersupply and battery replaced (not at the same time) and all I needed to do is call them and they had one overnighted to me on their dime...I threw the bad one in the box they shipped they new one and stuck the return lable on and that was it!

I atually just bought a new laptop from them...

Dell inspiron 9300

17" screen

256meg vid card

100gig HDD with 1Gig ram

everythign after tax came up to 2600. (work paid for it )

I can build 'em but I am too lazy and have better things to do with my time now.

I'm getting a dell. Just called them and "built" the computer. I have the opportunity to buy an inspiron notebook worth $1,499 or more, and get $750 off the price. So I added on crap like the ultimate protection plan, carrying case, all that jazz. I just have to go online tomorrow and buy it, they met the coupon quota for today, or whatever you call it.

Good choice, dell works well for me too. Own three and all are problem free.
