I went to race another Rx-7 today, a 87 SE that runs consistent 14.7's, I had a horrid launch spun bad in first let off a few times, while he pulled away caught him even though i was spinning in first put some distance on him with second, but then i went to shift to third and it wouldn't go i then noticed the clutch pedal was stuck to the floor... after closer inspection all the hydraulics work but no clutch so i drive it home starting it in first to make it back, drop the tranny and I managed to rip all the friction material off of a new clutch with only 900 miles on it, the engine side of the disk was in 50 pieces and just gone completely from the rest of the clutch it was great....



New clutch and a rematch are in order

 

What size and type of clutch?

 

It was an O'Reilly 89-91 pressure plate, and 86-88 disc... but with 900 miles on it... I'll post a picture as well....

 

225mm then? It probably is. My friend blew up a clutch in his REPU when he had a 215mm on it. He should have used a 225mm.

 

my t2 used to slip the 240mm clutch at the top of 3rd and 4th, stock disc and pp, both new from mazda....
