And The Motor Goes Pop!
#1
well, my motor popped last night. I think its a coolant seal or something cause it smokes like a chimney in the lower rpms. it idles like ***, but I was able to drive it 30 some miles to my garage. at least its got a warranty I guess. I am going to pull my spark plugs later today to see if they are bad. but Im pretty sure the motor is gone.
hopefully the warranty company will just ship me a new motor and I can put it in myself, cause I sure as hell am not going to have f'ing mazda do it. thats probly why I had all the problems in the first place.

well, just got off the phone with Chris at rotary performance (rx7.com), thats who built my engine...I thought it was a reman...and survey says cracked apex seal...anyways...he wants me to bring the car all the way to texas...I live in chattanooga, TENNESSEE. and he will probly blame it on anything he can find...if I sneezed on the engine, thats why the apex seal is cracked...thats probly what he will say...I am waiting on a call from him, and hopefully I can just ship my motor to him...I cannot really afford to take the whole car down there...
now whether or not it is my fault.
so lets go back a few months. I drove the car home and changed the plugs. the rear leading plug had outrageous carbon build up. engine had 4000 miles on it when I bought the car. ok, no big deal, maybe they are the plugs that came with the new motor...so I changed my plugs after another 2000 miles...same thing, the rear leading plug was awful...while the other 3 plugs were normal for 2k miles. This leads me to think that all this time I had a cracked apex seal this whole time...the car has never really ran right...I have spent my time since purchase trying to make it right. and now the crack worsens...I am not too happy, and will be more unhappy if I am forced to take my car 1000 miles to have it looked at and stay in texas and miss school and work while they look it over and rebuild it. What should I do???

Damn guy, that scares me just a bit... I can only imagine how bad that sucks. Just so I know, was there anything going on that ever made you suspect your engine was going to blow? Bad idleing, noises, smells, poor performance????? Sorry I have to reopen such a painful wound but I think that it may help the entire rotary community for the good. Again sorry about the luck, I think we will all hit it at one time or another.

so basically, the car never ran right, and as soon as I thought it was...boom.

Dude, I think I'm going to puke...... When I changed my plugs, 3 of them were kinda black, but one was half blackened and the other half was a weird beige color?? With the new plugs in everything seems to run fine, it's just that when the motor is cold it idles rough, but almost always smoothes out during warm up. Sometimes cold it idles fine. I need to take a trip to KD Rotary they're only an hour away, get everything checked. Your spark plug story has me spooked..
