I think its honda, as much as I hate them, they will take a shitload of abuse and still run
I think so much is attributable to driver habits and strict maintenance. That and getting a good car and not one that was made on Friday afternoon.
I had 170k on my 626. Never did anything but tires, brakes, a couple batteries, exhaust, and a starter. My brother got over 250k on a damn Chevy Cavalier. He would get 80k out of a set of tires. Nothing would ever break. He bailed when the rack finally went out. I think if you baby most well-engineered cars, they will last a good long time.
Now for cars you can beat the **** out of and still keep on the road, well that narrows it down a bit. I'd say older Mercedes and Volvos, and old rear-drive Chevys. And lets not forget the Checker Marathon.
A little story about an old Volvo. Years ago my friend got broadsided by a Volvo 240. Struck his Ford Ranger right behind the passenger door and flipped it on its roof. Came within a few hundred dollars of totalling it. The Volvo drove away. Hit and run. The cops caught up with the guy later, but he had no license, no money, and no insurance, so it didn't do my friend any good. Old Volvos are built like tanks.
IMO manufacturers aren't making cars like they used to. Sure they're great when they're new, but they're designed to fall apart in four or five years so you have to go buy a new one.
