So today I decided to do a budget build on my 88 n/a. The oil controll rings are toasted in it, and the tranny needs some syncros bad so I decided to see how much power I can get from it for as little money as possible untill I get a T2 motor. Mostly this is just gonna be somthin to do instead of just trashing the old motor.

I figure a base line rebuild, new gaskets, seals, o-rings and such. Home brew turbo setup, I already have an FMIC and a megasquirt. Probably will just run a stock turbo on a custom manifold, larger injectors, some porting of the housings and the intake.

Target budget is ~$500 for everything. The mechanical part is no problem, i have a garage, welder, plasma, etc...

Not too concerned about long term, maby a few months of hard driving is all I want.

Any suggestions on cheap power?

Also I have a holly power shot nitrous setup, but Im thinking on a 6port turbo with stock turbo this might give me some unwanted boost creep. Anybody have feed back on nitrous and turbo, not just opinions, but fact/experience based replys?

Why not just buy a 13bt and do it right? I mean, if you're already willing to put forth all that effort, might as well do it on the turbo motor, and end up with a better product.

Thats what I will eventually do, I am doing this since I already have most of the parts. Im just wanting to see what I can do on the cheap for now. I plan on starting a 13BT among other mods to the car this winter after my toyota truggy leaves the garage. As for all the effort, its just for fun and I really dont mind doin all the work.

It seems like a waste of money to buy parts for an engine that won't be in there for long. But its not my money. Just save your money, anything you do to it won't get it near the 15's in your limited budget and time frame.

I know how you feel.. tough choice man.. maybe do some other stuff to the toyota while you wait for parts and money to come in.. then spend once and burn rubber for a long time..

Thats about what I decided this weekend after I found an REW locally for $800. ~40k on the motor, good compression... figure ill just do that motor right, just gonna cost alot more for what I want out of it and the car.
