Dont ******* do it. Nothing, and I mean nothing they can do for you is worth losing you're brothers.

I joined cause I was stupid. Wanted to kick doors, jump outta airplanes, fast rope from helicopters etc. Now that I've done it, I could care less. If I could take it all back I would. Even if the pay was awesome it still wouldnt be worth it. The fact that I make a little over 2k a month AND THATS DEPLOYED just makes it that much worse. Go work at Wal-Mart, its a better joice

I joined the AF when i was 19 yrs old. Working tobacco on the farm or cutting pulp wood did not excite me. I was on Active duty for 8.5 years, 6 yrs in Miami, 1 yr in Korea, and the last months in Spokecane Wash. I switched to the AF reserves and have been stationed in Austin TX, New Orleans LA, and Fort Walton Beach FL, and along the way i have been to 15 foreign countries, and to war in Hati, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait.

I have 4 Job skills now, Aircraft Weapons to include Gunships, Computer Admin, Logistics Planner (this I do full time in the Civil Service for the AF, and Medical Admin. Nov 1st, I completed 28yrs of service.

Everyone has their own reasons, and with anything it is what you make of it.

I am a recent Army Retiree, I joined the military when I was 17yrs old because I wanted to do something exciting. I have been stationed in Ft Bragg, Italy (twice), Ft Benning, Little Rock AFB (Old JRTC) and Ft Monroe, VA.

My best highlight in my Army Career was telling a senior officer, not to tell me how to run my business as Primary Jumpmaster in my Aircraft (C-130) as I am the person in charge regardless of rank. I was a young sergeant back then. It's incredible when things go right in an airborne operation you get no credit but when something goes wrong you will easily get fried.

Worst highlight was when I ripped my patella tendon and my kneecap shifted out of place on top of my femur bone during airborne ops which grounded me forever.....

Best deployment was Berlin for me. I went there twice before and after the wall. I have pieces of the wall at the house. It was hard to literally not sleep for 2 weeks. We would party all night until 530 in the morning, do PT and Army business, finish work about 6 pm and stay up and stay drunk all night till the break of dawn. I always promised myself I will sleep in, but never did.......

I am a contractor now for the Goverment but I sure miss it.

I do feel bad for the NEW Army. A lot of my supervisors back then were Real Vietnam vets and actually seen combat. Our oldest real war vets are Panama, Gulf, Somalia and it's a different style of combat. But I have faith in our country. Pride is not all there like it used to be but there is still some that still have it.

I joined because I smoked too much weed. Now I make $2800 every 1st and 15th of the month after 10 years of service. I'm still shooting to make more money by going Warrant Officer. I should get picked up too. I work in communications. I haven't seen combat. I probably will eventually if things keep going with the war on terror.

Damn, not bad there Van...

sweet7 11-11-2005 09:41 AM

I shiver at night and sweat all ******* day. I'm the right-hand bitch for an O-6 and make approximatley **** in a jar as far as money goes. I've spent my entire military life either in some stupid school getting my balls smoked off or in Afghanistan and Iraq. I'm ready to get out.
