idle stop systems save fuel by shutting down a vehicle's engine automatically when the car is stationary and restarting it when the driver resumes driving. Especially in urban areas, drivers often let their car's engine idle at traffic lights or when stopped in traffic jams. Switching off the engine to stop it idling in these situations enhances fuel economy by about 10% under Japan's 10-15 mode tests*1. |
thats all fine and dandy when the car kicks on while its fairly new and tuned.. imagine that after its like 10 years old and all outta wack.
|
It'd have the get up and go of a s5 N/A with its 6ports out of wack, exhaust out of wack, spark plugs out of wack, ect. ect.
|
i think you are supposed to lease cars like that

EW LEASING..

EW LEASING..
actually i betcha it would turn into the idling stop system. it just wouldnt restart... |
lol

meh shut it down to one-cylinde ror something, dont stop all the motion, plus doesnt it use more gas to fire up the engine then to idle it?
kevin. |
It doesn't for a diesel though....and somehow back in the 90's that pertained to a gas engine somehow. However the prius/insight both have systems that shut off the motor whilst sitting still..additionally so you dont hear it turning back on (for the insight at least) they send a conterracting sound through the sound system which makes starting the motor have no sound at all!
|
yea ive driven prius' that i thought i stalled because the electric motor kicks in and the car goes dead silent.

kevin. no mazda stops the engine, and then restarts without the starter. they claim 10% fuel savings |

My car would start with a 9ms injector prime pulse, that's about all the extra fuel used during starting, so that's what, 1/4 second worth of idle fuel?
as for reliability, that doesn't look like much more than another bunch of code in the ECU, it should be more reliable than starting with the key if you think about it. It looks like a strange bumpstart sequence. |

It looks like a strange bumpstart sequence. if you stop the engine in the right place, with fuel in the cylinder, firing the spark plug will get it moving enough to run (as those of use with haltechs know!) i guess the trick was stopping the engine in the right place everytime |
hahaha
mine usually just made that bang noise with key-on! |

kevin. Yes. http://www.mazda.com/mazdaspirit/env/engine/siss2.html Its pretty cool actually, neat idea. You could never do that with the RX8 though, they'd have to call it the iFlood or iPushStart |
