They clearly left it open for additional movies. I don't believe that Neo is dead, when they carted him away on that platform he still showed a ton of energy.

i have thought about this too. he looked like he was glowing, but they obiously showed you that he was not breathing or functional. and he couldn't have survived the smith assimilation anyway. i pretty much agree with srce on the movie. the wachowski bros lacked the neccisary imagination to pull of a decent finale.

what im wondering is when the oracle and architect were talking was there any people running around??? Is that just a fake matrix that theyare meeting in.



Also in the first matrix it is stated that most people after childhood cannot be released from the matrix because their mind cannot comprehend it. So when the architect said "all that want to go can leave" or whatever. I was assuming the ones that were young enought to be able to cope with the fact that they've been living in a dream world.



So technically there would be no real way to free everyone from the matrix without killing most of them. Hence the new matrix.

yea and what the **** about smith taking over everyone in the goddamn matrix also, i mean if the were assimilated as neo shouldn't they all be dead? also what the **** happen to the little girl and the asian dude, it was like they got killed but the little girl showed up in the end all happy like she just smoked a blunt or some ****. and how the **** does neo kill smith by giving into the assimilation thing? i mean dude turns black then into smith then he blows up..... wtf?

i don't think it was a new matrix, if you think about it smith had assimilated the entire simulated world so now did the entire crop of people die with the eradication of the smith virus? if so they would need to regrow the entire new population. i think they just rebooted the matrix to reset all damages caused by the fight.



now if the people didn't die then the matrix woulda had to have stored a complete backup of their beings. which would make sense, but do you remember how baine had cerebral scarring? the backup restore might not take into the flesh. so at this point you would assume that the only living humans are the ones underground. now do you suppose the machines would have a back up system in place? such as a large field not jacked in but operating in a limbo, now if that's the case the machines will need all the power from them to survive the way they want, would they really be willing to give up their source of energy?



basically what i'm saying is that the ending sucked more than anything in the entire world.



the perfect ending would have been for neo to "jump" into smith again and destroy his code. then since he is jacked in directly at the source do some sort of "one" thing an bring the entire matrix system down, and send a massive spike through the machine world freeing mankind. that is how it should have ended. the lose of human life would have been great, but well worth the defeat of the machines. and with that ending you could still have your "artistic" bullshit and kill neo if you want.

but at least she paid for it and kept me entertained suring the movie..

Or, since Neo already got as far as he did with the ship, why couldn't there be a central place of power for the machines where he could just fly the ship in a set of the EMP and take em all down, Yes you'd lose the jacked in people from the Matrix, but Zion would be free and everything else would be good.
