Take one . Lower the pay scale but give # two a raise. If the computer ability is that important than to replace him and/or train some one to fill in that capacity would be longer and harder than to train someone how to work the microfish and talk to people.(easier)
Tenure is bull ****. You get promotions on service and execution not because you collect a paycheck longer.Complacency could be a factor on why #two (who may be a cool cat) has not been promoted for the last 3.5 years. |

for instance, if i sat you down in front of a car and told you to try and sell it to some customers that walked in, you wouldnt really have too much of a problem doing so. BUT, if i sat you down at a parts counter and said "i need the bump stops for a 99 M3" it would probably take you quite awhile to figure out where to find it, then how to check availability, and if you dont have it, to be able to tell them how long it would take for you to get it. 31332225377 $16.18 each, we dont stock it (we are a mazda dealer though) .... took me about 1 minute? |
oh yeah, and the reason im even asking this is because of what tghe boss is planning on doing. he wants to give #3 a chance to work the counter (for a couple hours a week at the start, then who knows after that)to fill the position so he doesnt feel that he was left out on the chance at a promotion. He said hes also doing this because he thinks that #3 will realize that working the counter is harder than he thinks it is and will then want to move back down to his current position so he can still be lazy.
