Thumbs up

I know you don't like to post a link from the other forum, but this one is very noteworthy.

If it can be pulled off, it will be outstanding. We need to get the word out to as many people as possible.

I read that thread and even tossed out a few ideas. Here's my thoughts:

It takes a lot to organzie something of this magnitude. Five people who are enthusiastic isn't going to cut it. And to tell you the truth, I don't think that forum has enough people that could actually pull this off.

They want to get Mazda to sponsor it. That's not going to happen. For a company of that magnitude, you have to show them that you're capable of doing this. You have to start small, then get bigger. The head of SoCal 7s told them this.

Some people (maybe the uneducated ones, no offense to anyone that might take offense) seem to think they can get big names to show up (like Downing at MADS). I don't know if that can happen either. Same as getting Mazda to sponsor it.

I wish them luck, but I don't think they will be able to pull it off. At least it won't be of the magnitude they would like it to be.

Jerry is Right.

First, Mazda wont even Sponsor some thing like that unless it will be a wel organized and maybe televised event.

Second, all that will happen is: A bunch of people will show up, and treat it like their local gatherings, but only bigger. In other words, instead of having 100 people with Tumbs up their ***, they will have 2500 people with Thumbs up their ***.

I think the only event organized thats worth it, is Ryan's (the owner of that site) St. Louis RX-7 V. Supra event. Thats if he still has it, and if you live somewhere around there.

This is all true.

I have been around the event production business since I was a very very small child. It's been a family legacy of sorts, and I have been in that business as well. In fact, still am to some degree.

Anyway, to do it in the style they are proposing, you have to get major sponsors like, not just Mazda, but other big corporations. Those Companies don't throw their yearly sponsorship allotments around easily. They wont negotiate with Rookies. Trust me on that. If you don't have a 100 page sponsorship proposal printed in color on heavy glossy paper, it will hit the trash before anybody important sees it. Trust me, I know this. And do you have any idea what it cost to produce such a sponsorship package? Forgetaboutit. Who is going to front the money for marketing?

If they hire a professional Marketing and Promotions agency then it could happen. But that cost money too, see?

Food for though... How long had MADS been around? MSCW runs a great show for what it is. Kudos to all of them. Buuut, even now, the best they could get from Mazda is at a local level, and only to pay for a Catered BBQ dinner, and only under the condition that Mazda could give an audiovisual presentation during the dinner.

I think MSCW will keep making their event better each year, but as you can see... it takes time (or lots of money). So... start small and work it year after year like the MADS event, then maybe.
