I've been looking for a welder lately.
It needs to be 120v Gas shielded about 1000 Cdn I would love a 240v Welder, but I don't have 240v sevice in my shed..... The duty cycles suck now, only 20% wtf is that? |
110V welders are OVERLY OPTIMISTIC in their published ratings, 1/4" is POSSIBLE with multiple passes and proper joint prep. IF you are limited to 110V, make sure you are running a DEDICATED circut.
|
Yeah I have a separate Curcuit for the shed, I only want it for thin stuff, like minor body work.... Exhausts, and other stuff....
|
Then I am to assume, off that circut you are planning on running lights too?

So any preferences on one.... Hobart, LIncoln, Miller, I am personally leaning towards Miller.
|
I have had the Hobart Handler 120, 135 and 175
They are all good units |
Roughly how old?!?!? good reliability?
|
i have a miller cricket xl 115 that works great for thin piping and body work up to single pass 1/8 steel. i rarly use it and have been thinking about sellin it and the tank is new and i paid a preimium for it at praxair.
|
I have the miller 135 110v and love it to death. I'm sure the hobart is a good machine also for a little cheeper. I'd try them both before you buy if you can.
|
they are all pretty much the same.
I have a miller 110, and it has worked great for thin stuff. I got a little bottle and little cart, it is so cute. I want to get a decent tig machine, but the money factor for me is too great right now, and my friend just bought one so i'm going to mooch off him. |
Well the new Job is already paying off, Ordered a MillerMatic 135 for 750 taxes in, on the website they retail for 730 us.
Just need to buy me a Mask, and a Small tank. |
Now that you got a job, wanna buy a car you don't have to weld together? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I want to get a decent tig machine, but the money factor for me is too great right now, and my friend just bought one so i'm going to mooch off him. Check out the new Miller Syncrowave 200. Its decently cheap (can be had for $1500-$1600), does AC/DC so you can do aluminum, and has built-in pulse control so doing thin sheet metal is a breeze. If you want to spend a little more money, look into the dynasty series. The invertor technology is pretty nice... adjustable output frequency for better bead quality and appearance, the machine is very light compared to a non invertor machine (200 amp machien above is over 250 lbs compared to 75 or so for a dynasty at the same amperage), they're much smaller, and they draw much less current. They've also got a perfect squarwave, and built-in pulse control. Nice units. I've got a syncrowave 350. I love it. Its far more capable of anything I could ask of it. Big 'ol 500 lb unit.. built in torch cooler, pulse and sequencer controls, PFC... BUT... the thing was mighty expensive at over $7000 with all the bells and whistles, and its current input is pretty hefty. I've got a millermatic 175 for quick field welding. No complaints... pretty much exactly what I expected. |
