are your local transportation services looking for bailouts?

Ours is, even if you dont ride the trains or buses you will pay, if you make over $300k a year, you will REALLY pay.

I think they said people making over $100k a year will pay about $650 a year.

So if they place a .50 cent a gallon gas tax increase can we make people who ride the buses and trains pay some of that too?

So as a way of saving money public transportation is NOT the way to go.

Bullshit I only use the buses and trians when I go to the city 5 buck round trip to the port authurity from right outside my house then a 7 buck all day metro card for the subway

defprun 03-27-2009 08:53 AM

you mean your 500$ metro card pass...

It's actually quite cheap to transport yourself around the city as long as you don't use a taxi or horse and cariage

defprun 03-27-2009 09:27 AM

It's expensive on a horse? I thought they got paid in carrots?

I actually have mixed feelings on this issue. In general, I hate making non-users pay for a service, but public transportation makes a lot of sense. How many more travel lanes do we need to build to alleviate rush-hour congestion? It seems like people would rather sit idling in traffic for two hours rather than take the train. I recognize that for some, it just doesn't work, but for a lot of other people, it would.

Our roads are crumbling, rush hour congestion is out of control. Jack up the gas tax and pay for public transit? Doesn't seem all that crazy to me.

Touché...but cars like my jetta are so cheap to operate, its cheaper just to throw twenty bux in and go to Toronto and deal with parking rather than pay 40 for a train...
