besides a genuine rotary buildign shop where do most people learn how to build up these engines? i know hands on experience is a must, not worried about that but i want to learn every bit possible, what are some good books and videos. The people that engineer these engines have to take classes somewhere, does anyone know where these classes might be at. i am enrolled in the ASE classes at my college but they dont teach **** about the engine except that it exists. kinda sucks since it was one of the best selling sports cars of all time, guess that doesnt matter. any rotary engine shops in the ohio area hiring?

The single most helpful thing for me was the video by Bruce Turrentine, which you can get from Rotary Aviation.

One of the best resources online, is right here. Read everything Judge Ito and Lynn E. Hanover have written in the engine building forum, and your brain will expand to an enormous size

If memory serves me correctly, ATKINS now sells THEIR video, which I find not as informative as the Turrentine Video

And yes, I bought (from them) both videos and currently own both of them.

Turrentine:

Rotaryresources.com has overhauled more Mazda rotaries than they can remember and have learned all the tricks for making the rebuild job as easy as possible. The master engine builders at rotaryresources.com are also professional educators so this presentation is crisp, complete, to the point, and actually fun to watch. The video quality is very good and the close-up views are exceptional.

This 160 minute video covers every detail of teardown, cleaning, inspection, and overhaul of the 13B. It even shows how to do the internal modifications made for aviation applications. If you even THINK you might want to go inside your Mazda rotary, this video is highly recommended.
