Well, since some of you know about guns here, I figured I would ask about a similar topic. Knives.

I am contemplating getting a knife. One that is able to cut through seat belts (for emergency situations). Not only that, but also for defensive purposes (should that ever happen).

I heard of a number of brands, but I don't know which ones are "good".

Knives from manufacturers such as Cold Steel (www.coldsteel.com), Spyderco, etc.

Got any recommendations?

Tanto style knives keep a really nice edge.

I would be cautious with keeping knives in your car.

Generally speaking any blade over 4" long will be illegal.

This one is $20.00. If it won't cut your seatbelts you could always use it to sacrifice a virgin.

Well for self defense in less you are trained with a knive you really shoudlent use one to fight. The tables can be turned and if that person knows any basic self defense they could have your knive in no time.
