Now that he is in private school the only time he gets homework is if he did not complete something in school which he has ample time in school so if he chose not to do it then he does it at home....

I am a product of public schools too and they did a great job with me but that was 30 years ago and times have changed a LOT since then, nit just teachers but "I don't give a ****" parents were rare back in the day and are the norm today.

That is how homework should be! And of course the parents don't give a crap anymore, they're too busy playing WoW or smoking meth to even remember that they HAVE kids...

And Baldy... those serious crime issues are pretty serious.

Baldy, when your kid hits middle school see if you feel the same way, I felt bad for my son, no life, just school and homework.
Yeah, that's why I say a "reasonable" amount of homework. The amount I had in middle and high school was just plain ridiculous at times.

homework. **** THAT ****! /rant

seriously? that is retarded. The reason for homework is to reinforce the topics learned in school. Kids need to get into the habit of doing their HW. All through gradeschool i NEVER did homework or did it in class and didnt pay attention to what was going on. Luckly HS was easy so it didnt really matter.

In college, that **** does not fly. The instructors just present the information, you are the one responsible for learning it. How do you do this? HOMEWORK! Making kids do no homework, or not presenting them with ample practice will screw them over later, especally if their teachers suck *** in the first place.

I can absolutley say that my lack of HW dicipline almost got me kicked out of the engineering school. Ive woken up and started to complete my assignments and my grades are getting better.

The lenght of assignments is a different story, there is no reason for 40 math problems when 5-10 will cover the concept...

No way. **** that! TEACH ME at school. After that is my time off. No wonder so many kids drop out of college. It's ******* retarded. School is school, home is home. Once you leave the classroom you should not have to complete the teacher's job for them.

cant believe im about to recite a standard school motto here considering how much i despised it, but:

Learning doesn't stop at the classroom.

Finding the correct amount of homework is necessary, i dont agree with current homework standards.

But as an insight, the reason all your kids have so much homework is the amount of info being crammed into there head as being mandatory learning.

Have you ever seen the required work per year for your children? The teachers are given specific information that must ALL be taught by the end of the uyear, fail to teach it all and you fail at your job. Unfortunately there is now SO MUCH required per grade that it is impossible for teachers to fit it all in, as a result little jimmy has 5 hours of homework.

Think back to when you were kids, try to remember what you were learning at your child's age...then compare it to what theyre learning. My guess is what you were learning in 8th grade theyre being taught in at least 6th, if not at least dipping there toes into it earlier then that.

The world, the US even more so, is becoming more and mroe about crunching huge things into small amounts of time thats why everyone always says "kids are growing up so fast these days", same reason why kids are having sex at 13 being pregnant at 15 and all that other ****. Everyone is in a rush to get to the finish line so they are just trying to cram the kids heads with as much as they can even if it has no bearing on what theyll accomplish in life.

If you really want to tackle the NOW faulty public schooling system, go after the foundation rather then the teachers, the children or the parents. it's the school boards and the curriculum planners who are making everything the way it is.

back on topic tho, i would've walked in and shot the teacher that let made the kid get voted out. seriously. i dont even like people insulting my pets, let alone if i had a kid and THAT happened. ****.

kevin.

Yeah back on topic I agree.

Noone makes fun of my pet snail... and for an adult to make fun of my future kid... that's not very adult.

The 'new math' prevents kids from aquiring the skills to write software.
