So basically the I-pod is a throw away device. Nice.

Thats fucked up.

Sounds like most companies though, making shitty enough products that they have to be replaced every so often.

same with car-makers. Why would anyone want to make a car that ran forever?? and/or ran off of a resource that could not be metered/sold to common people.

We are the worker ants that keep this ant hill going

LOL! That's the funniest thing I've seen all day.

I've got an answer to the ipod. It's a Sony Walkman that's almost 10 years old. I listen to it when I'm working on car stuff. It's tuned to my little FM transmitter that's hooked up to a PC in my garage. It's a P60 which can only have a small (for today's standards) hard disk (2048MB per IDE channel), but I currently have at least 24 hours worth of songs loaded into winamp's playlist.

Oh, and batteries last around one week or more depending on how much I use the walkman. (I haven't needed to buy any batteries yet).

i dont understand whats so hot about mp3 players

i have a cd player that plays cd-r

one disc has around 700 songs.......omg its too BIGH!!!!!!! EEk it wont fit in my slk320! and wont look stylish wtih my capris!

MP3, for the most part, doesn't sound very good anyway. Even high bitrate files sound bad if they were encoded with a crappy program.

I like LAME with Razorlame as a frontend to encode, and EAC to 'rip' CDs with. I tend to use high bitrate settings with VBR because CBR isn't necessary most of the time. VBR also saves file space.

My P60 can play any MP3 or LQT file that I've tried so far. It's just a little slow when programming a playlist, or taking pictures with Snappy. I'm going to upgrade to a P200 with a couple larger hard disks soon. That ought to give me several weeks worth of songs. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I just hope it will survive when I port engines (lots of dust gets sucked into the air intakes of the computer lol). I'm sure the P60 has a nice collection of metallic dust inside it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Jeff20B 12-22-2003 06:05 PM

Sorry, I've been into this stuff for many years.

Hmm, let's see here...

LAME = Lame Ain't an MP3 Endcoder (odd name, but it encodes MP3s)

EAC = Exact Audio Copy

LQT = Liquid Audio Technology

CBR = Constand Bit Rate

VBR = Variable Bit Rate

MP3 = Mpeg 1.0 Layer 3

P60 = Pentium 60 (60 MHz or Megahertz)

P200 = Pentium 200 (overclocked P166 hehe)

Don't you mean dubya tea yeff?
