The first ever engine or means of propulsion produced was a very crude rotary engine. It literally is a big triangle in a circle. the triangle was connected to big fins like you see in steam boats now and steam was pushed through the intake side and out the exhaust port.



From what i understand the reason why we have piston dominate cars is that

nearly all trains at the time where piston bases and the market for trains was bigger the steam boats. Since pitons design was researched so much due for the demand trains the same model was used for cars.

I guess I do what you know
rotary, with it's 4->6 port during driving, was the first engine produced with a variable setup, or "vtec" effect.



i like using that one on ricers.
