I'm hopelessly old school, so most of you young-uns will pooh-pooh this whole thing. I maintain that in the days of newspapers, writers and editors had to make an effort to get their facts straight. If they didn't, then their mistakes would be right there in black and white. Now, with online content, nobody cares about proving the veracity of the **** they write, they just want to be first with sensational stories that generate web page hits. If the garbage they write later turns out to be false, they just change it. Ooops! Sorry.

Does this problem play a role in the current state of our fair nation? Ya think?

the days of investigated reporting are over, you listen to the old guys and they talk about taking 6 months, even a year to break a story, now its all about the first one to break the story, worry about facts later. of course they also used to try and break the big stories, they no longer do, you break the big story now and there's lawsuits, get kicked out of the presidential pressbox, etc... there is no such thing as free press.

If used responsibly, internet sources are great for checking sources and such, even if you're just using a search engine to find the original literary work where some quote was pulled from.

In the pre-internet days of newsprint, you assumed what was written was correct. How could you check the facts?

My problem with the current media, either online, written, or on TV, is the need to have 24-hour news. The need to have something to report on every second of

yeah, like cnn has all these shows that basically recycle the days news over and over.. they could just have a 2 hour long news cast at night, with everything of note..

I guess it tailors to those with odd schedules though.. since you can flip to those channels at anytime and get your news..

One of the really cool things about newspapers was that, after you finished reading them, you could let your dog crap on them. It just doesn't make sense to do that with online news delivery systems.

But newsprint is great for polishing glass, and crumpled up newspaper can be used in lieu of styrofoam peanuts as a packaging material.
