Insurance For Rx7
#1
I called my insurance company today to get a quote for an '84 GSL or GSL SE. Anyways, they searched and their database brought back that 1986 is the oldest year they have available,so they quoted me for an '86 GSL. There is no such car. 86 is the first year of the 2nd gen. That's a totally different car.
So,do you think having an 84 insured as an 86 should affect my rates or anything,or should I look into classic car insurance since it's going to be a 20 year old car next month?

Ok,well I am 18 next month and in Ontario, and I am currently paying $4300/yr for my Celica with one accident. I was paying $2400/yr before. That's just liability with million dollar comprehensive.
I was quoted $3500/yr for the RX7. But if you think of it,they basically quoted me for a 2nd gen,not a 1st because they said '86 in the quote.

I would find another insurance company. If you ever had an accident they could come back and tell you that you insured the wrong car, refund your money and tell you that you are screwed.
The GSL-SE should cost more because of the 13b engine in it and it was a more expensive car.

Ok,well the GSL-SE I am looking at to buy has a 12a swapped into it because when the original motor blew, the owner said he couldn't get a hold of a 13b,and had a 12a lying around so he dropped that in instead.
I'm with Liberty Mutual, but what makes the whole situation harder is that the car will be in my mom's name, but I am put as the primary driver just to make the insurance cheaper. I wasn't impressed when they told me all they had was an 86 and I told them that that's a totally different car and they were like "well, our database only goes back as far as 1986." Stupid insurance.

Even with the difference in Canadien dollar and American dollar that guy is still getting scarewed!
The most I have ever paid was $200.00 a month for liability on a POS nissan sentra from the 80's. That was because I had wrecked so many cars I was about to be cancelled. I have only received one ticket in my life
Right now with all the wrecks off my record, no tickets, insurance company still thinks I am married and I am 26 I pay less than $100.00 a month for full coverage on a 2003 Pontiac Vibe. I got a price quote on an 2004 RX-8 and it was $120.00 a month for full coverage. Kentucky may suck a little but at least stuff is cheap here. I would hate to live some where that it cost more for insurance than your loan payments!
I have not seen what my liability will cost for the 86' GXL though, prolly not too bad though.
