I'm speechless, I don't get it, they are basically don't do the deal if they aren't guarenteed to make money, apparently I was not aware of this factor.

Because Amy was in the hospital, we can't have health insurance, they just denied us after a month of filling out paperwork. So we are basically fucked, all the bills that have stacked up in the Month of June will have to come out of pocket.

Current damage is about $6,000 and of course adding up since we cannot get insurance in the state of WA now. I just don't get it, it's almost more then I can deal with, I'm fucked no matter which way I turn and there is nothing I can do to improve the situation. Not to mention the ******* insruance company that denied us has $300.00 of my cash that they are going to tie up for 30 days/

Yeah from what ive seen insurance companies blow...

Recently my soon to be ex step mother got drunk cna smashed herself and her car into a poll. She was ok but later my dad gets told his insurance has been cancelled because she lives in the same house as him even though he's been with that company since he was 16...

Seems like total BS to me....

Did you ever see if you can retro-actively get COBRA benefits?

Baldy 06-11-2003 03:00 PM

You don't deserve this crap, I'm really sorry Phins. I didn't donate for the flowers/balloons, but if you need help on medical bills, I'll be happy to send what I can afford. Nobody should have to deal with that situation.

Other Important Facts Regarding COBRA

A notice will usually be sent to the employee stating what rights the employee has under COBRA within 14 days after the plan administrator has received notice of your qualifying event from your employer.

You have 60 days to elect COBRA coverage, otherwise you will not qualify afterwards.

Payment for the first COBRA premium must be paid within 45 days after electing COBRA.

The premium for COBRA cannot be more than 102 percent of what other employees who are working in the company are paying.

A bill will usually be sent to you from the plan administrator each month. You have at least a 30-day grace period to pay. However, we would advise that you pay the bill as soon as you can, or else complications could arise. For example, the COBRA plan administrator may think that you don't want coverage any longer and drop you off. Then they would have to reinstate you upon receiving your payment (within the grace period).

COBRA coverage will begin as soon as your group health insurance has ended with your employer.

Certain COBRA coverage allows you to convert from group health coverage to an individual policy after you have reached the maximum number of months of coverage.

In the event of a divorce, the spouse of the covered employee must notify the plan administrator within 60 days to get COBRA coverage.

Cobra is expired, I don't quite understand why, but it basically had something to do with my company being out of state and notifying the insurance company in November that our poilcy would end on April 30. I don't know what that has to do with anything to be honest and in addition, I was under the impression that because we had prior insurance 90 days previous that we could not be turned down, which is incorrect, this only applies when going from one group plan to another, not from group plan to individual.

phinsup 06-11-2003 03:07 PM

See what they are saying is because all of that info was sent to me when were notified back in November that we were being laid off that I had to elect to extend coverage then. Basically they are saying it was my responsibility to obtain coverage or elect cobra in November. If that makes sense. Trust me, none of this **** makes sense I call them and it's like talking to ******* poet, nothing makes any sense except you are fucked.

In talking with a few other people it's my understanding that health insurance companies claim they were going broke in Washington State and demanded changes to offer policy's here and the state did so. In individual insurance sector they can basically give you any reason they want to not provide you with coverage. It's a win-win for them.

I am still working with the hospital bill to have that taken care of, we didn't qualify for the medicare, you have to have a combined income below poverty level to qualify for that.

And to top it all off I think my ulcer is back which rocks with no insurance cause first I gotta go to the dr then I gotta get the pills which cost a ******* fortune.
