Ok, as you all know I sold my car. So I recieved a cashiers check and took it down to the bank with the intentions of having the bank write another cashiers check to the lady who has my mini truck.....so I can get the thing shipped here ASAP. This was on Friday, and the bank informed me I was gona have to wait 5 business days for the check to clear. So I was like WHOA, this is a cashiers check, why do I have to wait at all for it to clear, I need the money now. They gave me some BS about their being fraudulant checks out there and blah blah blah, so I let them know this was a huge inconvience and I wasn't happy about this....cause damn its a cashiers check! So today I swung by the bank to deposit another check and asked them if the money was going to be available tomorrow or Thursday. Well since I came in after 4pm on Friday they check sits around till midnight Monday and I won't see my money till next Tuesday!!! Wierd how 5 business days turns into about a week and a half. Is there anything I can do to get my fricken money? This is ridiculous I feel and the more I think about the situation the more pissed I get.

I'm pretty sure banks "wait for checks to clear," when they really invest them in stock markets in a 5 day's span, earning money from your money. The only way I found around cashing a check is to go to the bank that the check is from, get cash (dolla' bills), and go deposit in my bank. But that only works if both banks are local to you.

That's fucked!

It's like your bank has no trust in you.

I can walk up to an ATM, deposit a cheque, cash whatever. .

withdraw it right then and there!

If the cheque bounces, or something.

It's my account, my problem.

wait a tic...you can deposit a check at an ATM, then withdraw the same cash? How does it know how much the check is for?

at my credit union, if I deposit the check at the ATM, it doesn't take effect until someone empties the machine at the end of the day, and inputs it in the system...at least that's what I'm guessing happens

oh...and credit unions pwn banks

Well see i'm use to my credit union, which I still belong to in NC, where I can walk in with a cashier's check for whatever amount and walk out with Cash the same day. The purpose of having someone give you a cashiers check is to have immediate money, otherwise you'd just use a personal check.

Yeah, I tell the ATM how much the cheque is for.

The bank trusts me, let me withdraw the money if I want.

On the spot.

Same deal with cash, If I put in $100, I can take it out right then.

Even if the balance was$0, before i deposited it.

That's why it's fucked to me the bank would even consider putting a hold on a cashiers check!

Take the cashiers check to a branch of the bank were it was originated with proper ID. They should be able to convert it into a new cashiers check for you on the spot.
