Ok, as you all know I sold my car. So I recieved a cashiers check and took it down to the bank with the intentions of having the bank write another cashiers check to the lady who has my mini truck.....so I can get the thing shipped here ASAP. This was on Friday, and the bank informed me I was gona have to wait 5 business days for the check to clear. So I was like WHOA, this is a cashiers check, why do I have to wait at all for it to clear, I need the money now. They gave me some BS about their being fraudulant checks out there and blah blah blah, so I let them know this was a huge inconvience and I wasn't happy about this....cause damn its a cashiers check! So today I swung by the bank to deposit another check and asked them if the money was going to be available tomorrow or Thursday. Well since I came in after 4pm on Friday they check sits around till midnight Monday and I won't see my money till next Tuesday!!! Wierd how 5 business days turns into about a week and a half. Is there anything I can do to get my fricken money? This is ridiculous I feel and the more I think about the situation the more pissed I get.

vosko 09-23-2003 03:25 PM

your kinda fucked unfortunately. banks suck!

Baldy 09-23-2003 03:27 PM

I'm pretty sure banks "wait for checks to clear," when they really invest them in stock markets in a 5 day's span, earning money from your money. The only way I found around cashing a check is to go to the bank that the check is from, get cash (dolla' bills), and go deposit in my bank. But that only works if both banks are local to you.

yup that always works

SpecialT 09-23-2003 03:31 PM

That's fucked!

It's like your bank has no trust in you.

I can walk up to an ATM, deposit a cheque, cash whatever. .

withdraw it right then and there!

If the cheque bounces, or something.

It's my account, my problem.

wait a tic...you can deposit a check at an ATM, then withdraw the same cash? How does it know how much the check is for?

at my credit union, if I deposit the check at the ATM, it doesn't take effect until someone empties the machine at the end of the day, and inputs it in the system...at least that's what I'm guessing happens

oh...and credit unions pwn banks

94touring 09-23-2003 03:35 PM

Well see i'm use to my credit union, which I still belong to in NC, where I can walk in with a cashier's check for whatever amount and walk out with Cash the same day. The purpose of having someone give you a cashiers check is to have immediate money, otherwise you'd just use a personal check.

Yeah that would have worked.

SpecialT 09-23-2003 03:37 PM

Yeah, I tell the ATM how much the cheque is for.

The bank trusts me, let me withdraw the money if I want.

On the spot.

Same deal with cash, If I put in $100, I can take it out right then.

Even if the balance was$0, before i deposited it.

That's why it's fucked to me the bank would even consider putting a hold on a cashiers check!

Nemesis 09-23-2003 03:41 PM

Take the cashiers check to a branch of the bank were it was originated with proper ID. They should be able to convert it into a new cashiers check for you on the spot.

vosko 09-23-2003 03:41 PM

well if i put a $10k check in. i can take $100 out lol until it clears

teknics 09-25-2003 02:23 AM

it took over 2 weeks for my $10k cashiers check to clear.

Too many great fake checks in the world today...

Gotta love technology and people who want something for nothing!

Jims5543 09-25-2003 07:20 AM

94Touring - I use the same bank branch for everything. Car loans, Mortgages etc.. I have over the last 5 years gotten to know the branch manager very well. She will do anything I need now as she trusts me 100%. I know this does not help you now but try to strike up a relationship with the people in the bank. If that seems impossible ask around and find a bank where it is possible and use that one.

One thing I have learned in life and it SUCKS! The more money you have the more you can get away with. When I had $100 in the bank no one was cutting me any breaks. Now that I have a substantial amount of money in this bank I can do whatever I want.

A few weeks ago my employees started going to the bank to deposite or cash their paychecks before I got there to transfer the money into the account. My payroll account was majorly in the negative and they just kept cashing checks. Why? Because they knew me and were confident I would be in to tranfer the funds. Not too many banks will do that. I love this bank branch and will drive past 3 other branches to go to it. Plus a couple of the tellers are hotties there. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Sorry dude I know how frustrating that can be. I have been there myself.

phinsup 09-25-2003 09:02 AM

It happens more then you think, my cousin got screwed on a car by one of them.

banzaitoyota 09-25-2003 09:13 AM

Ceritfied checks aren't as good as you think. I make it a matter of business to hold ALL tiles until FUNDS have cleared the banks. John

r_xplicit 09-25-2003 09:20 AM

i dealt with this when i sold my rx7 back in july as well. but i was told that the main reason was that the originator of the check (buyer) can put a STOP PAYMENT on the check/cashier's check/or even a money order.......WTF????that is some sneaky ****......you could get a 15K money order for a car, go half way around the country to buy a car with a different ID/name, and then get your $ back after you pick up the car and make a quick call to the bank to put a stop payment on it......

1Revvin7 09-25-2003 10:24 AM

Sounds like paypal..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Baldy 09-25-2003 12:42 PM

Sinful7 09-25-2003 12:44 PM

hmmm advantages of a bank over a CU..

Branches all over the place..

That's about it.

works2r 09-25-2003 01:23 PM

actually, by federal law, you can no longer put stop payments on cashier's checks anymore, if i am not mistaken, because its considered a negotiable instrument these days.

I was wondering about that myself. Otherwise a cashiers check would be no safer than a personal check, unless of course it was counterfit to begin with.
