I buggered up the threads on that huge stud where the differential mounts onto for a FC. As i jacked up the differential, I didn't have it lined up properly and continued to raise it.



The nut won't follow the threads, I stopped after the first spin when I realized I couldn't finger tight the nut on. What are my options. Should I rechase the threads using a die? The die will probably retrace using the buggered up threads and try to cut new ones...



Please help me... Can that stud be removed, and a new one installed?

yes just chase it. just make sure you get the die lined up perfect as you start. and use alot of oil on the stud while doing it

Find a set of Split dies, install them on the good threads and then screw it off to renew the treads

yah, we did this on the race car and it was fine

Hoping it would work. The reason why I went with this is because I don't ahve a DIE handle, a split tie that is adjustable is 40 bucks on it's own. I can re-use this tool for other threads as well, whereas the single die can't.



If it doesn't work i'm out 80 bucks. But at this point, i'm willing to alsmot do anythiung since I don't think I can replace that stud for the differential if I can't fix it. option would be to cut that stud out. Drill out the remainder. Then weld in a nut, to use a bolt to secure that side of teh differential onto it (not a good option at all). Will try to avoid doing that.
