Anyone here doing this presently. Anyone who is selling products online intersted in giving advice I could use it.

I am sick of the Land Surveying business. I have been wanting to do this for a couple of years now. I wanted to wait another year. But might start real small and work my way up running both places at once. Then transitioning over fully to the speed shop once it starts to make money.

Did I mention I hate Fuggin Lawyers? Leaches of todays society.

Hey, give up surveying and start flying like me! On your way to Tulsa, pick up my truck...hehe. I realized how much bullshit surveying was while preparing for my state exam. Either the guy in the field busting your ***** for peanuts, or the boss man everyone blames and points fingers at when things go wrong....making peanuts.

Only problem with a speed shop is you'll have a small market, unless your area is full of car crazy guys like us. My good friend back home that did most the work on my car started it as a speed shop, but there was one problem, I was the only "big money" customer. There just wasn't enough people that really spend money on their cars. Guys buying intakes for their hondas doesn't pay the bills at the end of the month. He eventually changed the name of the shop and did oil and tire changes with some other minor repairs, and had a ton more business. It was either that or go out of business. But on the otherhand not to shoot your dream down, you might as well give it a try if thats what you want and will make you happy. Personally I was going crazy surveying and have since learned leaving it cold turkey was the best thing I could have done for myself.

Town is crawling with ricers. On Thursday Nights there is anywhere from 200 on up cars at an unofficial ricer meet in a Publix Parking lot.

There is also a lot of rich little **** in this town looking for someplace to spend their money. The only real speedshop in town in mostly domestic and the owners (all in their 50's) are condescending ********.

They would be real jers to me when I would go there. Until they saw my car and found out its running 12's on its way to 11's. Then they started being cool with me.

I would start small and build it up using my Land Surveying business revenue to keep it alive until it could stand on its own.

I had a really shitty day today and I am getting tired of all the stress.

94Touring - I used to be a lineman all through highschool. I took quite a few "free" flying lessons from the instructors. I can land and take off in a single engine plane. I mostly flew in Piper Tomahawks. I got to ride in Bellanca Citabria's one had an inverted fuel system. I got the ride of my life in that.

The instrustors used to take us up in the evening, we would be in 2 planes. We would go over the ocean and have dog fights. They would chase each other and when one had a "lock" on the other he would key his mic and drag his thumbnail over it making a machine gun sound.

We did with Piper warriors what piper never intended to have anyone do to them.

I used to do flips inside the back of a 6 seater warrior while the pilot did hard negative g's. The owner of the company once inquired about the foot prints on the headliner inside once. We told him a renter must have had sex in it. He seemd pleased with the answer. It was actually our foot prints from failed flips.

Fun times.

My friends have a 6 seater plane and a house on a private island in the Bahamas with a privete airstrip. They took my wife and I there and he let me fly over. Brought back memories. I let him land the dirt strip was short and intimidating. Over shoot and your in the water.

Go for it.. But like 94 touring said.. it will be hard to stay in business unless you can get the people to spend money.. The guy who keeps mytruck at his shop, used to have a speed shop.. but it didn't make enough.. So he moved into a new location and started a body shop, but he does all sortsa repairs and maintenance.. Now he is better off.. He occasionally gets the big spenders. Things have been way better since..

The technology job market blows here. I'm looking to delve into something different also. Maybe I'll move out there and help you. That is if you are serious and you want some help.

Starting a shop is my dream job.

I'm going to make my money and then make my dream a reality!

I, like you, live in a place crawling with rich kids: an untapped resource for income!
