I was driving up sunday evening from a beautiful day of New Jersey crab fishing down the jersey shore with my kids. When I was coming home north in the NJ garden state parkway. I was in the slow lane with my cruise control on. About 40 feet infront of me there was a coach bus. The ones that bring people down and up from atlantic city. Suddenly the coach bus comes to almost a complete stop. I did not notice right away(I was adjusting my stereo volume) when I llooked up(it took me no more then 3 seconds to look up) the huge bus was almost at a stand still. At this point I was driving full speed to a rear end collision with a huge bus. I didn't panic and made a sharp left hand pull around the bus. I was able to drive around the bus at 60+ miles per hour. But unfortunately on the left lane another vehicle was driving past us. It so happens to be a state police officer that I literally pulled over. The Rx8 tried to go into a 360 degree turn but I was able to counter steer back and forth and I managed to walk away with my life and my kids life.

to the members that are waiting for the templates I was dealing with insurance adjusters all day monday and tuesday. everything is back to normal in the shop and I'll be shipping tomorrow morning. ..

no tickets. it was an accident. He was writting the kids names and ages. He was aware of the bus that created the scenario..

defprun 06-16-2004 08:13 PM

him writing a ticket to you must be salt in the wound...unless you and the wife charmed him into giving you his number than thats a different story...

no tickets were issued. I would have drove into the back of the bus or around the bus. If anybody should have been giving a ticket it should have been the bus driver... but I'm glad it was not worst.

vosko 06-16-2004 08:35 PM

atleast you are ok! you are always messing with the law! you better get lauren's car done so it will be at rotorfest

Shane.Trammell 06-16-2004 08:43 PM

sadly no. the side airbags got jammed and did not come out. I have pictures showing the bags jammed. The insurance company is looking into that..

RussellTT94 06-16-2004 08:53 PM

a member in australia (i think his name is luis) got t boned by a truck, and his side airbags failed as well

Fd3BOOST 06-16-2004 08:57 PM

Thank God you and your children came out unscathed.

The unstopable Ito and family! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

TYSON 06-16-2004 08:58 PM

It's a really nice advertisement for the rigidity of the cab though, inspite of the odd door arrangement and lack of B pillar it really held its shape.

Shane.Trammell 06-16-2004 09:00 PM

i wonder if there could be some sort of lawsuit with mazda for that.

drew 06-16-2004 09:09 PM

glad to hear that you and the kids are okay, that's the important thing https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/bigthumb.gif

venomrx7 06-16-2004 09:10 PM

**** lawsuits. that is why none of us can afford car insurance anymore. people are too ******* lawsuit happy. no one was hurt because of it. thankfully. mazda does however need to do a recall on ALL rx8's not just those in australia.

ITO, I'm glad you and your family are ok. You might want to get together with tyresmokin7 and give mazda a call. His airbags also failed to go off when he was t-boned by a truck

good luck with everything, and hope you get it all figured out soon.

ROTARYROCKET7 06-16-2004 09:13 PM

why did the big ass bus slow/stopped? Did a car cut it off or what. So many times im adjusting the radio and something funky is going on in front of you thats whyi memorize where evthing is on my car and either use the remote in my hand or feel my way around the buttons on mah girls focus.

rfreeman27 06-16-2004 10:18 PM

BrandonDrecksage 06-16-2004 11:53 PM

not to be redundant or anything, but glad that you and your kids walked away fine...cars can be fixed, people can't....and someone should kill the ******* bus driver..and nice state trooper to not give a ticket...thats gonna be me in about a year...being nice on the parkway

even still

venomrx7 06-17-2004 01:13 AM

BrandonDrecksage

even so, no one was injured. and no one even needs to bring up the ptsd bullshit. I'm sick of law suits, sick of the people that file them, and sick of how ******* lazy this country as a whole has become. people have no self pride anymore, they will happily humiliate themselves by going to court over pointless bullshit, all for an easy buck.

I do agree that mazda should fix the problem, and even to push it, MAYBE give him a new car, MAYBE. but this should not go to court.

mazda is handeling tyresmokin's very well, and I'm sure that they will do the same here.

ccarlisi 06-17-2004 02:43 AM

Glad you're ok man. How did the kiddos handle it?

I believe this is the second RX8 that has had a problem with side impact airbags in the last month. The other owner posted a thread about getting T-boned on the rx7 forum recently.
