Here goes...

My laptop worked perfect for the first 4 months. Now my memory card reader doens't work.

I called gateway, we wasted over an hour trying different stuff. Finally dude told me to get all my stuff off the hard drive and do a system restore on it. I did that, still no worky.

Called back, spent another 30min at least trying different stuff, no worky. He told me that I'd get a box in the mail, box it up and send it in. No problem I thought.

I get the box, I drive 20 min to drop it off. After 4 days it comes back. Of course I wasn't home. I drive 20min to pick it up. Unpack and power it up, no worky. Called back, wasted no telling how much time trying different stuff. Sending it back... Oh no, I can't reuse the same box either. I had to wait for them to ship me a new box. I also requested them to test the damn thing this time. So yet again I box the damn thing up and drive all the way out there to drop it off.

HURRICANE HITS HOUSTON

Gateway calls me. Were is my laptop??? Houton! No big deal, there are way more important things going on so I'm cool. I told them my laptop was the last thing I was worried about, people's safety is more important. Well during that friendly conversation the lady tells me that oh by the way they didn't do anything the first time.

Almost two weeks, I get a door tag to come pick it up again. I'm thinking I'm golden now, surely they fixed it. No dice, it still no worky. I called and actually got a real nice guy this time. He talked me through trying everything but bending the laptop over and boy ******* it. Still no worky, should have boy dogged it. He thinks files are corrupted. Oh yeah he said that they did change the mother board out the second time (at least they did something).

I also tried to talk him into faxing me a shipping label this time, no luck. I had to wait on another box and then drive out and drop it off. You'd think I'd catch the damn DHL guy at least once! No such luck. I even asked him how many times do I have to do this before I get a replacement. He told me if they don't fix it this time, I'd get to exchange it. That was a lie...

Well I just got it (this being the third time they supposedly fixed it) and it still DOESN'T WORK!!!! They said they'd replace it before and now they are telling me to send it in for the 4th time. This is some bullshit. I will never, NEVER buy anything gateway again. I do not understand why it is so hard to test it before they send it back. How hard is it to stick a memory card into the card reader slot and see if it works???

Anybody else hate gateway???

I wouldn't be near as pissed if I didn't use my laptop for work, school, and personnel use. Work and school frown on wacking off to **** in public places! I have a stack of cd's with all my stuff that I'd like to have access to. I can't print anything unless I drive to school or work. This is my final semester at school and I have made countless trips to school because I don't have a computer at home. DAMN IT! I guess I'm done bitching for now....

that sucks man.

thats why i prefer to build my own cpu's.. you know exactly how it's put together, and you know exactly what products are going into it.. you know your getting a quality vid/sound card instead of some random piece of **** they call 256 mb or whatever.... i build desktops though...

can you build labtops from scratch?

I've never tried to build one from scratch. I've changed out ram and a power supply on my old desk top about 5 or so years ago. That's about it. I've really been out of the loop on computers lately. I need to keep up but I've just got so much going on lately.

The whole reason I bought the pos gateway was because my dell took a fall off the desk about a week before my honeymoon. I needed a laptop fast and I didn't have time to check my options. I just ran out to best buy and picked up one...

i dont think you can build a laptop yourself, towers are pretty fun and easy tho, saves you a ton of money, unless you wind up doing the same thing some do with their cars and diving head in to some of the real extravagant ****.

there arent many companies if any who make stuff to build your own laptops. theyre a lot more compact than towers so its more difficult to make universal products that you can get to fit in a small case. i wish i could build my own though
