Here goes...

My laptop worked perfect for the first 4 months. Now my memory card reader doens't work.

I called gateway, we wasted over an hour trying different stuff. Finally dude told me to get all my stuff off the hard drive and do a system restore on it. I did that, still no worky.

Called back, spent another 30min at least trying different stuff, no worky. He told me that I'd get a box in the mail, box it up and send it in. No problem I thought.

I get the box, I drive 20 min to drop it off. After 4 days it comes back. Of course I wasn't home. I drive 20min to pick it up. Unpack and power it up, no worky. Called back, wasted no telling how much time trying different stuff. Sending it back... Oh no, I can't reuse the same box either. I had to wait for them to ship me a new box. I also requested them to test the damn thing this time. So yet again I box the damn thing up and drive all the way out there to drop it off.

HURRICANE HITS HOUSTON

Gateway calls me. Were is my laptop??? Houton! No big deal, there are way more important things going on so I'm cool. I told them my laptop was the last thing I was worried about, people's safety is more important. Well during that friendly conversation the lady tells me that oh by the way they didn't do anything the first time.

Almost two weeks, I get a door tag to come pick it up again. I'm thinking I'm golden now, surely they fixed it. No dice, it still no worky. I called and actually got a real nice guy this time. He talked me through trying everything but bending the laptop over and boy dogging it. Still no worky, should have boy dogged it. He thinks files are corrupted. Oh yeah he said that they did change the mother board out the second time (at least they did something).

I also tried to talk him into faxing me a shipping label this time, no luck. I had to wait on another box and then drive out and drop it off. You'd think I'd catch the damn DHL guy at least once! No such luck. I even asked him how many times do I have to do this before I get a replacement. He told me if they don't fix it this time, I'd get to exchange it. That was a lie...

Well I just got it (this being the third time they supposedly fixed it) and it still DOESN'T WORK!!!! They said they'd replace it before and now they are telling me to send it in for the 4th time. This is some bullshit. I will never, NEVER buy anything gateway again. I do not understand why it is so hard to test it before they send it back. How hard is it to stick a memory card into the card reader slot and see if it works???

Anybody else hate gateway???

I wouldn't be near as pissed if I didn't use my laptop for work, school, and personnel use. Work and school frown on wacking off to porn in public places! I have a stack of cd's with all my stuff that I'd like to have access to. I can't print anything unless I drive to school or work. This is my final semester at school and I have made countless trips to school because I don't have a computer at home. DAMN IT! I guess I'm done bitching for now....

sublimike 10-06-2005 01:56 PM

Yeah, I've only heard bad things about Gateway.

Sinful7 10-06-2005 01:59 PM

I heard good things about the Golden Gate[way] Bridge

boxrs4sale 10-06-2005 04:11 PM

that sucks man.

thats why i prefer to build my own cpu's.. you know exactly how it's put together, and you know exactly what products are going into it.. you know your getting a quality vid/sound card instead of some random piece of **** they call 256 mb or whatever.... i build desktops though...

can you build labtops from scratch?

AgentSpeed 10-06-2005 05:49 PM

I've never tried to build one from scratch. I've changed out ram and a power supply on my old desk top about 5 or so years ago. That's about it. I've really been out of the loop on computers lately. I need to keep up but I've just got so much going on lately.

The whole reason I bought the pos gateway was because my dell took a fall off the desk about a week before my honeymoon. I needed a laptop fast and I didn't have time to check my options. I just ran out to best buy and picked up one...

teknics 10-06-2005 05:57 PM

i dont think you can build a laptop yourself, towers are pretty fun and easy tho, saves you a ton of money, unless you wind up doing the same thing some do with their cars and diving head in to some of the real extravagant ****.

kevin.

rfreeman27 10-06-2005 09:08 PM

I have built a few towers. They were like...the **** 3 or 4 years ago lol

3 or 4 years ago in computer terms is like hooking up a Model A in car terms lol.

Shane.Trammell 10-07-2005 02:27 PM

there arent many companies if any who make stuff to build your own laptops. theyre a lot more compact than towers so its more difficult to make universal products that you can get to fit in a small case. i wish i could build my own though

boxrs4sale 10-07-2005 02:53 PM

just put together the following:

ABIT Fatal1ty AA8XE Mobo

520 Watt Power Supply

P4 Proc. HT 800mhz

1 gig Corsair DDR2 mem.

Seagate 250gig hd + older 120 gig WD hd

Pioneer dvd burner

Cooler Master Case

Sound Blaster Audiology 2 P

BFG Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3

19" lg flat panel 8ms

Tonight is startup night. Hopefully it will all go well. Had a vid card problem with the old vid card... Putting in the 7800gt tonight.

boxrs4sale 10-07-2005 02:54 PM

oh yeah.. this thing has like 9 fans total.. more than i've ever seen.

sublimike 10-07-2005 03:23 PM

wait, so how fast is this thing? 800 mhz or 1 ghz? that's fast...like 5 years ago. I got my laptop over 3 years ago and it's 2ghz P4

lol you have to specify better most people dont know MHz can be more then just direct processor speed lol.

i dont like pentiums but they are easier to get on sale https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rob x-7 10-07-2005 06:00 PM

what do you need such a fast computer for?

gaming?

G2G 10-07-2005 10:05 PM

I've been through the same thing. My first Sony laptop I sent in 7 times under waranty. The hard drive was replaced 3 times, the screen once, the keyboard once, the cd drive 6 times. Finally after bitching with them over the phone for over a month, and finally getting someone high enough up, to actually negotiate with me, they sent me a brand new computer the top model they had and all the bells and whistles. Haven't had a problem with it yet, and it's been two years.

yeah. gaming and recording.

i don't like to cut corners when building something that I will use daily.

i could def. go with less, but i would rather spend more now, than upgrade more in the future.

update: replaced vid card.. still getting an error on the mobo; cleared cmos (again), tried running on only the neccessities.. visited every abit forum i could find... after trying damn near every option, conclusion.. was shipped a dead mobo.. time to call newegg

Shane.Trammell 10-08-2005 08:57 AM

do you have the fatal1ty?

was recommended to me from a good friend..

after reading up on them though, this video 9.f error is common with these boards.. i really don't feel like waiting another 3-5 days to get another one shipped in to find out it has the same prob. so im off to compusa to pay the 40 bucks more than newegg for convinience after work today (a nice 30 minute drive).

i boot the computer.. no screen.. motherboard has 9.f code... then one long 3 short beeps.. tried 2 different vid cards.. same ****, no matter what i do. after trying everything, last resort is new mobo..

Shane.Trammell 10-08-2005 09:23 AM

no mine is an is7 series. check out abit's website at http://www.abit-usa.com and they may have some trouble shooting stuff there.

maybe try a pci video card, maybe theres something wrong with the agp slot.

tried both pci and pci express cards.. this board does not have an agp slot on it.. older card that i have was a pci 128.. new card is a 256 pci express. i made sure the cards were seated properly.

picking up a new mobo today. see how it goes

boxrs4sale 10-09-2005 12:06 AM

welp. got it done. new mobo took care of the prob.

rootbeerdragon 10-09-2005 11:50 AM
