I need a new gas grill
#1
I want a new grill. My current grill was a gift, and it's pretty much crappy, it's a cheap-o wal-mart grill, broke the handle off the first time I used it, etc.
What brands are good, or more importantly, what do I steer away from? I was checking out grills in Lowes and Home Depot, and saw one that looked really nice, until I noticed rust on certain ages and on screws heads and such. And this was indoors!
I'm not too concerned with size, 90% of the time we're cooking for 2 on it. But durability and quality is important; in the summer time we grill very often, keeps the heat down in the house.
And I know charcoal has better taste and the grills are cheaper, but when you're grilling 2 pork chops and some asparagus, it's not really practical to wait 30 minutes for coals when you're cooking for 10 minutes, then having hot coals for a couple hours.

I'm ok with a small propane tank. I have two, so I always have enough. No need to pay the city for them to run a gas line from lord-knows-where, to my yard, just for grilling (we don't gas-powered anything in our house).

i have a vermont castings, its stainless steel and cast iron, its at least 6 years old or so and looks brand new, stays outside usually uncovered.
the shelves are stainless, along with the heating grates, the grilling surfaces themselves are porcelin cast iron, as is the rest of it, there is some painted steel or aluminum- its held up great as well, and we are lazy with covering it up.

That's the second recommendation I've had for them, time to peruse their offerings...
edit: holy crap, not sure about that. For my price range, I could by a couple stainless steel doors, or maybe a side-burner stove. The grills are $700-$1,700 and above (on amazon).

mine came from a outdoor store by me, then 2 years later home depot started selling the same brand.
Mine was also a gift from my inlaws, they moved into a smaller house and had no use for the grill, my mother in law had given it to my father in law for a father's day gift, she paid like $1500 or some crazy **** for it.
I remember seeing them for like $800, but a little smaller then what I have.
You have 2 thoughts on this, buy a cheaper grill and replace it every few years, or buy a more expensive grill and it will last a long time.

I've been through a lot of grills, last one I bought which was 4 years ago and at my dad's right now, still works.... it was a top end sears/kenmore model. Lifetime warranty on the burners and it seems to be holding up very, very well. before that i had one from home depot that lasted about a year.

Someone on another forum also suggested the Kenmore grill, honestly I didn't believe them. I guess I'll check those out at Sears.
Even if I have to replace it every 5 years (as opposed to every 1 or 2), that's fine with me, until I feel like buying something fancier.

My kenmore is 100% stainless and it's got stainless tube burners, make sure you get the lifetime burners because not all of the kenmore's have them, there are cheap ones. like i say i've been through craploads of them and the kenmore has held up.
