Is the USA economy doing poor just like canada? i love how the news says the canadian economy is doing so good and they expect holiday sales to increase 5% over last years blah blah blah.

truth is i'm 4 months from graduating with a bachelor's degree in applied science from Queen's University, in kingston, ontario, Canada.

4 year degree in Engineering Physics, 28,000+ invested and no return. This reminds me of when i banked on Voice over IP internet telephony during the dot com bubble and lost it all.

Anyone tell me what are the prospects in USA? are there many firms hiring new graudates in engineering?

Opportunities aboud if you are willing to relocate. Engineers make the world go 'round. One of the reasons I chose the major is for the fact that you can pack up your stuff and move anywhere you want and still be able to find a decent job.

Have you done any internships?

Summer 2001 Ontario Power Generation - Nuclear Design Engineer

Summer 2002 - Bruce Power Nuclear - Procurment Engineering

Summer 2003 - Nuclear Safety Solutions - Nuclear Operations safety analsyst

yet no job.

apparantly all the employers would rather want someone who is graduating with a 90%, has no social skill, can not change a flat tire, does not understand the concept of team work or know how to solve an open ended solution.

This is why I'm having difficulty getting jobs... i've only got a 70% average and not a 90%. 500 people applied to a position that i held during the summer of 2003, and the company was only looking to hire 3 new graduates. Even with a 10/10 for every single performance shat criteria the company had i still did not get the job...

So i'm sitting here wondering, what the **** do they want? I feel like i got the short end of the stick and that engineering cheated my 4 years of my life and 28,000.

Should've went into buisness where the faculties treat their students with respect and care for their success since it is the new graduates who represent the school 5 to 10 years down the road.
