HI i'm new here and i thought i would ask what you guys think. I've all ways wanted a RX-7 but could never find one or had the money. Once again i dont have the money but i will do what ever i can to get this car that is unless its not worth it. But i'm riding my bike a long (cause i lost my licence, i know i know its not good to speed. i know that now ) and i see a nice red car then i look at it a little more closely. Ah my eyes are playing tricks on me. I get up and wait it is. A 1987 mazda rx-7 gxl. Well i must know just to know how much they want. So i asked the guy who runs the shop. He said he bought the car and wanted to work on it but didnt have time.... some thing wrong with it, humm, means it cheap and i get to have some exprince with the engine even better . Well he said the back seal is busted and i said the apex seal and he said yea. BUT it may be some other seal but i'm leaning towards the apex seal. He also said it starts and runs that i could drive it home (although with bad apex seals is that good?).So other then that i would prob. rebuild it while i'm in there. but i looked at the rest of the car and it is perfect. Looks like they gave it a paint job 2 days ago. sunroof/moonroof not sure yet, interior is perfect as well. Well what do you think its worth. He said that he wanted $1,500 for the car. I looked at kelly's blue book, and for a 1987 rx-7 gxl with basic options and a little extra to be safe it said around $3,000. I think it is worth it, but i dont have knowlage in the rx-7. I've read on line and stuff and would love a rx-7 but i want to see what the great people here think. I would be more then willing to spend night and day working on it. but i dont know if i can come up with the cash in time. Well thanks for listening to my blabing and let me know what you think. zero376

3k for an FC that needs a rebuild is a little high. You might want to take it for a test drive to find out if it really is a blown seal but I doubt it.

I saw a Fc for sale where I live going for 1.25k. Looks good too. I'm thinking about buying it myself. (just to let you know about pricing)

No he only wants $1,500 for the car. I was saying that Kelly's Blue Book suggested that a running good car would be around 3k. I he only wants $1500 for it. Zero376

That's not a bad price but Keep in mind that a rebuild will cost about $1k if you do it yourself.. I got my vert for $2700.. in good condition. Just needs new seats..

if so that would be a good deal . cause he said it ran and that i could drive it home would that be possible with a bad apex seal. i mean if that is what is wrong with it then i will do every thing in my power to get it as soon as i can.

It is possib;e to drive it with a bad apex seal.. The best way would be to compression test the engine.. If that checks out.. You may have yourself a good deal..
