Well moved back to parents place after i finished university. 4 Long hard years and no job after a degree in engineering physics, no money. So i had to move back home.

I hate it. I've already been through 5 fights/quarals with parents and i've been home for less then a week.

Nice.

I need to get a job. It's nice to know that 20,000 dollars spent on an education can't even get me my own place. So instead i owe 20,000 (thank god for some scholarships) and i live at home.

Yah!

So much fun.

94touring 05-04-2004 10:09 PM

I'd go nutzoid in the cranium if I had to move back in with the parents.

ColinRX7 05-04-2004 10:20 PM

That sucks man!

You can sleep in my garage I'm renting? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

My parents pretty much leave me a lone. It is the same as whenI was away at school. Well I have home cooked meals now.

What internships did you complete and what is your final GPA?

Erik 05-04-2004 11:16 PM

Hang in there man...I'm in the same boat. Except when I finished school I got a job not far from my parents house. So it would have been stupid to rent my own place when I could save so much living with them.

When my gf graduates it will be another story, lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I also lived on my own for 4 years while in school...dorm for 1 year...then apartment for 3. Damn I miss those days...hanging out with your fucked up roomates during the week...and then partying on the weekends...going for some car cruises through town and the backroads...Now I can't even remember the last time I "partied" haha.

But in all honesty...yes living back with the parents can suck...but dude if you find a job where you can live at home you will save soooooooo much money. For instance: My co-worker...who is also a designer has been working one year longer than me...so he's at 3 years total. He makes 5K a year more...but has to pay 800/month rent + utilities, food, etc, and other "on your own" stuff. He's not a big spender at all...neither am I. I've been working for 1.5 years and have more than triple in my bank account...all thanks to living at home. Not that "money is everything"...but if you are trying to save and pay back those loans...living at home can be an advantage.

I dunno though...if I was single maybe I would be looking for a place...to attract chicks to my pad https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

i was suppose to go work for nuclear safety solutions but i got hung out to dry. They had 400 applications and they hired a Masters candiate.

I worded as Nuclear Design Engineer at ontario power generation 1st summer, 2nd summer i worked as Nuclear safety research and design for Bruce Power Nuclear Generating Station, 3rd summer i worked for Nuclear safety solutions as systems analyst for nuclear control system systems.

I thought i had a job lined up with Altair engineering doing Adams/Car modeling of suspension systems and virtual protyping of internal combustions engines in troy michigan but it has been almost 3 weeks since the last interview and ihaven't heard **** all.

All in all i shuld've started my own survey company in california.

Midnightdriver 05-05-2004 01:17 AM

things may look like **** now but just hold strong. I know moving back with the folks sucks I had to do it when I left the navy until I found a good paying job. It really sucks ass but hay almost everyone has to go through it.

Sorry to hear of the bad luck finding work. I might just start a firm from the get-go after college. Engineers are pretty expendable unless they are specialists (masters degree and lots of years in one field).

You might be able to score some 12 dollar an hour internships browsing the newspaper ads. When I lived in Phoenix there was always one or two ads for college students in engineering to do reports and collect data. Even though you have graduated, you could get some experience and start networking by doing more intern type temp work. That is what I would do if I was in your shoes.

nismo convert 05-06-2004 12:50 PM

no **** you worked at bruce power????? that 15 mins from my door

So beware.

i was actually offsite, worked through a consulting company called RCM technologies doing the Bruce A reactor restart on the two reactors. I would go up there twice a month.

BTW NEVER EVER SPEED ON THE ROAD GOING UP THERE, it is corn fields and cops hide in the T junctions. I managed to rent a mustang GT since the car i booked wasn't back and they gave me the GT. Big mistake on their part.

I managed to beg the cop to let me off.

ColinRX7 05-06-2004 11:28 PM

12 DAYS LEFT TILL COMPETITION!

i'm pumped. we just finished making design boards for the competition, and are working on getting rid of stupid engine bugs at the moment. i hate electronics, glad i'm not on that team.

yall already finished school? we graduate in 7 days here, and i only have 3 hours so that means no finals, which also means we have been drinking since tuesday and dont plan on stopping until next sunday night after graduation. after that, we hit the 20 hour trip up to detroit.

oh, CALL THOSE BITCHES IN MICHIGAN BACK AND ASK WHAT THE DEAL IS!

RX7Aggie 05-07-2004 07:22 PM

i received a "Tenative Job Offer" from lockheed martin in houston, and haven't heard from them in a couple of weeks. i called them back and left a message that said "i'm graduating, what's the deal, is this job still on." the lady called the next morning and said i'm still supposed to start june 1, and the human resources people were sending me stuff.

companies are lazy and slow. you have to persist, and almost annoy them. tell them you aren't trying to be annoying, but you have graduated and need to know whether you should give up on the company and seek other jobs, or if they still want you.

oh, and dont worry about the money, i owe $16000 in loans also, and have a $4000+ credit debt. i feel your pain.

I still have the do the suspension poster board. I'm lazy. I"m already back home with parents 300 kms away from school, i'm heading back up on tuesday to help rebuild the car.
