hmmm, how many engines do you know of that routinely go over 400K without major work? The Cummins is all I know of in pick-ups
Tranny probs are solved by proper maintenance........

This is a problem you'll never see in SC, but my buddy's Indy Pace truck would not go into overdrive in cold weather.
Dealer told him "Oh, that's normal" until 5000 kms after the warranty expired and then they wanted to fix it.
No major failures though, and I've never seen a major failure with any truck motor/tranny combo other than the GM "Duramin / Alice" combo.

How much of a headache is adding a turbo to a non turbo diesel?
The Mazda Navajo used the 4.0L engine. It was a ford engine.
It was a two-door ford explorer, ford wouldn't let Mazda sell a four-door version.
When Mazda trucks became re-badged ford rangers in '93, people around here stopped buying them. Back then they cost more than a Ranger, and were seriously gutless wonders.

It is a Ford truck, however the engine's are Mazda in both the Ford and the Mazda. Also, the Mazda has a 48,000 mile warranty as the ranger has a 36,000 mile warranty.
The Mazda also costs far less, well in our case anyhow as University Mazda takes really good care of me, they were the ones that called me when they got the first RX-8. LOL and they do hang out here too.

Depends on the diesel engine you're working with but in general it's not too terribly hard to do. Most diesel engines are designed with a turbo in mind anyways, it's a match made in heaven.
Number one problem with dodge trannies: People use the wrong tranny fluid. Use Dodge or Die.

yea we did have to replace the tranny in the 97 ram once but that was my dads fault. he towed a 1932 ford sedan on a trailor without turning off the od. it killed the tranny. the 5.9l in that dodge was bad *** though. I really miss that truck.

My sister tows a 11000 lb horse trailer with her 4.6l Ford with no problems. Even keeps up a pretty good pace in steep hills. Only about 5000 lbs over the factory rating!
4.6 is a pos. i had one. it sucked the intake gasket into the cylinder and bent a rod. knocked like a sob. and then ford wouldn't do anything. they have had almost 1000 reports of the same incident and still wont do anything.
