Long time no see nopistons. My computer died about a year ago, and I haven't gotten a new one yet. I can use my girlfiend's computer, but haven't spent much time online for quite some time.

Anyway, I'd like to ask you guys for some help. This is gonna be pretty long, so bear with me, or go to the cliffs notes after the quote. We rescued a dog a few weeks ago, and he needs your help. I'll post a little background story first, taken from my girlfriend's myspace blog which can be viewed HERE.

So little bit of background first -

Morning of Hurricane Ivan, we see this Akita roaming the streets. We go up to it, it's sweet as can be. He follows us to our house, we give him food and water and he doesn't leave. Turns out, the dog's owner lives on the street behind us. We tell him we have his dog and he comes to get it, but "Kita" doesn't want to go. He has to literally drag him out of out yard.

For the next few weeks, Kita gets out and comes directly over to our house, we keep giving him food and water because he's extremely skinny, the tips of his ears are completely fly bitten and covered with them too. Owner always has to come over and DRAG him away.

We hadn't seen him for months until the past month or so, he's been coming over 3-4 times a week. Like always, I give him food and water, owner has to come over and drag him away.

So now to yesterday.

We notice that Kita has a 1/4" to 1/2", in some places, all the way around his neck. I'm PISSED!! I call Animal Control to see what we can do. AC comes by to pick the dog up, we get him in the truck with no problems whatsoever. Owner comes huffin and puffin around the house with WIRE in hand, ready to drag Kita away again. He's angry. Danny asks him what happened to his neck and he COMPLAINS that the DAMN dog stretched out all his wire that he was attached too trying to get under his gazebo to get out of the sun. Big surprise, an AKITA, of which has thick *** fur wants to get out of the boiling hot sun.

Anyway, AC guy tells him to go back home and that he'll be around in a minute. He goes stomping off. AC tells us that he will not get his dog tonight. Which I am thankful for. He said that if he keeps the dog - he will be issued AT LEAST 5 tickets for animal negligence which would totall well over $500. AND he would have to take him to the Emer. Clinic immeadiatly and AC would follow him there and stay to make sure the dog gets treated. (Just to walk in the door at the E. clinic is $75. His other option, relinquish ownership of the dog and let the AC take him to the pound.

Okay, so AC comes back, after arguing with the owner and tells us that he Relinquished ownership and that Kita will be going to the Shelter. (Owners excuse was that he's all alone and that he works ong hours and can't take care of the dog - like leaving a huge bowl of food and water out for him takes a lot of time ) He also informs us that Kita will not be treated due to his age (He's 6, but looks 10) and that if want to adopt him to call the Shelter first thing in the a.m. because he could be euthanized at any time because he's basically considered a stray. I'm heartbroken. AC tells me that he'll make a note that we'll be calling first thing but couldn't give us any guarantees.

I call first thing this a.m. & talk to the manager, Candance, GREAT LADY!

She tells me that she has to keep him for at least 24 hours in case the owner changes his mind. Candance asked us if would really want this dog because he's in really bad shape His neck would would have to be treated and he's severly emaciated and she hasn't even preformed any heartworm or any other tests on him yet. I tell her I want him adn that I'll be taking him to the vet as soon as I leave the shelter with him. She tells me to call back again tomorrow morning and guarntees me that nothing will happen to him until she hears from me. So hopefully we'll be picking him up tomorrow and getting him the treatment he needs.

Basically, we adopted the sweetest dog that has been treated like trash his whole life. He had ring worms, tape worms, and heart worms. It's going to cost $700 just to treat the heartworms, and we're looking for any kind of financial/moral support. Please check out my girlfriend's blog for all the updates on Kita's condition, and the whole story behind this. This dog has spent six years of his life in hell. We just want to give him a few years being treated right. Thanks everybody.

Sorry, it was a gash around his neck that was from the wire he was tied up with.

Thank you so much. We're taking him back in tommorrow for another check up to see if the tapeworms are all gone. We can't do the heartqworm treatment until he puts some weight on, since it's so hard on the dog (they inject him with arsenic). Also, if the donations exceed the vet bills, the excess money will be given to the humane society. Again, thank you.
